The Genesis 427 dyno results showed a peak horesepower of 505 at 5300 RPM. The torque peaked at 545 at 3900, but was over 500 pounds from 3000 to 5300. It has plenty of 'grunt.'

New vs old
Have built up a Genesis for my ERA. Great block, has stronger webs in lifter valley than old blocks. Also has thicker corners where originals tended to crack. I used old and new...I'll buy new castings over a 20+ year old block anyday as the investment is over 10K to do it right.

Fresh built Genesis 427
Just finished up a Genesis 427 SO engine project. Goal was 500hp on pump fuel, 93 octane. Stroked to 452, Scat billet crank, H beam rods, precision oil pump,Edl 76 CC heads machined out 80cc's, KCraft assymetric roller cam .633/.633,Crane roller tappets, (tested 3 other's cams both soild and hyd. on the dyno), result was great, 510HP on a Superflo dyno @ 5,200 RPM's engine will pull over 6,000 RPM's but never will have to....my ERA is lightin' fast with this setup. About 20K invested to do it right with all the good stuff,all new, no junk.

Go big or go home
I now have about 1,600 miles on a 496 cid Genesis-based SO. The blocks have more material around the cylinder bores also. You can easily use 4.310" pistons with a 4.250 bore which yields 496 c.i. I ended up at 607 fwhp with 9.4:1 compression - 91 octane baby! It turned out to be the ultimate dual purpose car I was looking for. 590 lbs-ft torque starting at about 2,400 RPM - it goes fast without ripping the tires out from under it.
I'm a fan of cubic inches and the aftermarket blocks make it easy, albeit a little on the expensive side - about $22K. Good luck, Brian |
What are the Genesis blocks going for (ballpark)? - there is no pricing info on their website.

$3495 for steel, $4495 for aluminum,... I think. For aluminum, you may find the Pond block is easier to find on hand.

What are the specs of your engine; stroke, heads, cam, & carb? Thanks Response: Specs on the Genesis 427: 4.250 bore; 4.125 stroke; 468 c.i. Holley 850 CFM carb. Edelbrock heads and Performer RPM intake manifold. Car has been registered for one month and we have nearly 800 trouble free miles. (most of that driving has been in 40 - 50 degree weather). Engine runs great. Solid. Minimal oil drips. Have set the idle around 900 RPM. Starts instantly when cold, let it warm up a bit before driving, then it idles well. No complaints. |
Genesis Good
I have had my Genesis for about 3 1/2 years. I have one of the early blocks and have had no trouble with it. 5000+ miles in Dallas 100 degree days and rush hour and the car runs like a champ. I am running 10.7:1 compression on 93 pump gas. It is a Keith Craft stage 2 build and makes 649hp at the fly wheel and 511 at the ground (dyno graph in my gallery if you care).
So far I have been very impressed and can highly recommend Genesis. John |
