oil slingers

does the ford fe use a oil slinger on the crankshaft?, is it needed if so where can you purchase one?

Yes they do. From the course of some of your posts/questions, might I suggest that you go to a local junk yard and purchase a dead FE from a truck and many of the items that you have been asking about will all be in one package. You can also see how they are assembled while taking one apart. I make this suggestion as someone that has 30+ years in building FE engines, with the amount you have tied into some of the parts it isn't probably a job for an FE novice, which you sound to be.

yes it is my first fe , but not first engine. this is a forum i like to ask the questions to get opinions and answersi dont like to use used parts but i am finding out a lot of the stuff is not available new. the only thing i had questions left on was the cam eccentric and the oil slinger, i think i have just about every thing else. my 342 was my first ford engine so i dont have experience in fords, but i dont appreciate being insulted on a forum.
what is that saying there are no stupid questions.

I just used an old oil slinger. It's just a piece of thin metal...nothing really special about it. I'd just grab a clean one off of Ebay. Maybe you can find a place that has the oil slinger and spacer together.

Woodzs knows most all of it, you can learn a lot from him. I realized my 40 plus years with Ford and FE's means I never saw and did what I did.

Also, no insult intended, but if you haven't purchased and damn near memorized Steve Christ's book yet, you really should.

The original seal material for the FE was leather…
To keep from flooding the seal beyond it’s capabilities the slinger helped.
(It wasn’t perfect, they still wept a bit)

With modern seal design and materials the slinger is no longer really necessary, modern seals can handle it.
Having said that I still use the slinger out of habit – LOL
I have seen more than one that went together without it, no problems.
