Computer guys; anybody know WTF is going on? Why can't those #s be typed together?

I do not have one on E-Bay but I do have one that I would sell. NOS side oiler block like it came from Ford. If anyone wants it they can have it for 5000.00. Thanks, Keith Craft 870-246-7460

Remember that in some states having an original block is a "get-out-of-jail-free-card" for emissions. Yes, I know that some of the new blocks have numbers that can fool lazy inspectors, but if you live in a state that sets your emission levels as of the block date you're nuts if you don't use an original FE (IMHO, that is ). And a NOS SO is about as good as it gets. I would be surprised if there was anybody out there that has a "new FE block" and that can actually pass their state's emissions laws. (Pulling the DP and replacing it with a lean single barrel carb doesn't count.)

Any of this stuff is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.
With that said, a 65 Ford with the correct engine is worth a lot more than a 65 Ford with a genesis or pond engine.
There is no arguing technology is better, but I would like to see someone sell a new vette for what a 58 fuelie goes for.
Your motor may be worth a lot to the guy who really needs one for a restoration.
For most of us on here building replicas, it makes more sense to buy a pond or genesis block.

I am not saying that it is worth more to everyone but if you need or want a new original Ford sideoiler block it gets pretty hard to find. If you do not need or want a new Ford original block the Pond and Genesis is a great way to go and what we use most of the time. We use the Pond and Shelby aluminum blocks more than anything right now because of the weight and they do not cost much more than a cast iron block.
For example I am building an orignal 1967 sideoiler engine right now that would be nice for someone looking for a nice orignal engine for a Cobra or a 1967 Fairlane. This engine will have the original 67 side oiler block, Medium Riser heads, Side Winder intake, pent roof valve covers, correct from cover, damper and pointer. I paid about 500.00 for the correct damper and pointer to have everything to make it original. It will have the vent/fill tube on the front of the intake and the tall breather on the bacl of the intake. This will not be for everybody but someone needing an orignal engine to pass emissions or restoring a car it will be great.

Before the Genesis and Pond blocks came to the market NOS sideoiler blocks were selling for much more. $7500+ was the norm. So if anything prices have dropped a bit.

Are DMV inspectors getting that savvy where they are checking casting numbers and reading date codes? Do you think they could really tell a Genesis block from a OEM? I have a new Genesis block and have had a few oem 427's. I think it would be somewhat difficult even for the most anal of inspectors to tell them apart when it's together in the car. So how deep are these guys digging into your rides on inspection?

The DMV folks are not involved with emissions inspections in my state. In order to get the emissions exemption for the old block you go through the Department of Environmental Quality. You'll have to swear under oath that the block is really the date you say it is, the inspectors know where to look for the date codes, and they can really tell the difference between an iron block and an aluminum block. It's a roll of the dice on whether you could get by with a nicely weathered Pond or Genesis. And I suppose we could at least come up with plausible deniability when the youngster from the Commonwealth's Attorney's office calls you up to clear up that "false swearing" thing that has just landed on his desk....

It's all about economics = Supply and Demand

If Shelby made 100,000 CSX cars there would be no replicas.

An NOS block cost more because there are more people wanting them than there are numbers.

If KC says the block is good, feel comfortable with the buy. Be cautious when buying or biulding FE for power and always use a reputable builder. I have had two friends buy a cheaper FE only to have issues. In the end they would have done it once with KC and saved $$$$.
