If your looking to do a inexpensive street build the 390 "truck" pistons use the same compression height (1.660 in.) as the 410.

I totally agree w/recommendation to talk to Keith. Great guy!!

Since a 410 is 4.05" bore (like the 390), why not go +.030" overbore? There is a bigger selection of 4.08" pistons to go with the stroker cranks. And if you go with a stroker crank, you already have a 3.98 stroke, why mess w/4.125, why not go with the 4.25 and you'll have a 445? A +.030 390 block should be fine; most 390's will take up to a +.060" overbore w/o sonic testing, but I wouldn't go any farther than /060" w/o sonic testing. IMHO.

Keith can fix you up w/stroker crank, I-beam or H-beam 6.700" rods (BBC) and correct pistons, all in one neat package.

I thought the 410 engines used 360 pistons?????????? for the pin height and compression........

360 uses a 1.759 piston height with a longer rod (6.54"), shorter stroke.

I thought the 410 was nothing more than a 390 block, using a 428 crank, 390 rods and 360 pistons.....all off the shelf items.........

it is all off the shelf parts. but they use the 390 truck piston which when run with the 390 crank keeps them deep in the hole and only about 8.2 to 1 compression.

o-k..........the reason I thought they used 360 pistons is years ago as in maybe 20 years ago, a buddy and I were on a "junk yard run" and came across a mercury station wagon with a 410 in it. Neither of us had seen one before and the owner would not sell him the motor, but did sell him the air cleaner assy. with the 410 decal on it.......

When he got home, he began researching the 410 motor and found they were 390's with a 428 crank and being he had a couple of 390 engines as well as a few old 360s, he decided to build a 410 for his 4x4 to replace the dead 360.....he found a good 428 crank and built the 410 using the best 8, 360 pistons out of the 16 he had.I do remember it having a lot of compression and he had to "de-tune" it some for pump gas, but he ran that motor for years in his old hunting 4x4 and it was a stump puller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not sure what if anything else he did to the motor to use the 360 pistons, it's been too long ago.......
