After paying about $5,000 for the Pond block, which is the block that is used for the buildup in the Hot Rod article and getting a set of Bill Coon's heads for $5,000, it's all down hill from there.

Didn't I read a while back that there were some serious quality control issues with the aftermarket heads for the Cammers? I thought I saw a few articles/threads about that......have the casting gurus resolved the issues on fit and finish or is this a different source.

Default Go with the real deal

C&C Motorsports in Manassas, VA. has the real deal.

http://www.candcmotorsports.com/index.html

Carrol Carter has his own block and heads and builds these motors for Pro Stock as well as "street" applications. He built my FE and is reknowned for his expertise on these motors. When I picked up my motor there was a guy in VA. who had one in his Cobra. I think it was a "monster" motor. Carrol advised me not to even think about it as it was totally undriveable on the street in the configuration the fella had it built in. If one was reasonable I'm sure a streetable one could be configured.
These cars are a handful now....

From what I've read on the FE Forum, the SOHC heads made by Dove have had problems, but the heads from Bill Coon are the versions to buy. These are the heads that are featured in Jay Brown's article in Hot Rod.

Back when I was looking for a big block the first choice was SOHC 427.Lucky for me is a friend who deals with exotic Fords and NASCA racing motors and parts. For a cool $20K and several to choose from, all needing rebuilding, was too rich for my blood.even looked into a Boss motor.Same thing was the cost of parts then rebuilding.Still very satified with 468ci big block.
