KSC- Cobra

So far, we are builidng our streetbeast as close to the instruction manual as possible. We are using many parts from a Mustang II and a Fox body Mustang. We used the stock front suspension and 8.8 rear end, all 4 lug. During the build process we've used the factory Mustang 10 hole wheels (15x7) with stock tires (225/60-15") for our testing. The build manual calls for 14x6 in the front and 15x7 in the rear. The 15x7 Mustang 10 hole in the front fills the wheel well nicely but slightly rubs the upper A arm when turning. The 15x7 rears look very small in the wheel well. What size tire and wheel combinations are the rest of you running?

15x7 with 245-60 tires up front 15x8 with 295-50 out back,this combo gives the original look to the car. If you decide to go with expensive after market wheels you really should use 5 lugs front and rear it is an easy conversion. I narrowed a 9" to get the right offset for the big wheels and tires,you could do the same thing with the 8.8

Let me share some of my experience with the streetbeast suspension set up. I am not sure if mine is unique or not. But here is what I learned. Particularly the rear end. I too have an 8.8. I run 15x9.5 rear rims on 295x50 15 cooper tires. At first I did not narrow the rear axle but actually widened the rear fender flare 1.5 inches. When mocked up the tires had clearance. BUTTTTT when mounted the tires under suspension load would rub. I threw money at the problem and had the rear axle narrowed. BUTTTT when under load the rear would still rub.

So I had to actually think about this..... The issue was actually the very nature of the design of the car. Originally Cobras had independent rear ends so the rear tire traveled perfectly up and down within the wheel well the rear fender flare was made to accommodate this type of vertical travel. Our kits have swing arm 4 links suspensions which means as the arm/axle travels upward it moves forward in the wheel well. I found my cars wheel well had lots of room if the tire was traveling purely vertical but it was not. After working through this i also noticed my tires were not exactly in the center of the wheel opening. Long story shortened. The answer was changing my fixed 4 link set up to and an adjustable 4 link then moving the rear axle back one half inch in wheel well. This compensated for the forward swing/deflection of arm.

It worked perfectly I now have full travel of the suspension under serious load and no rubbing. And no cobra guy has noticed the wheelbase is not exactly 90 inches.... Bring on the fat chicks!!!!
