Radiator cooling help

KSC- Cobra

Guys,

I think I may need some radiator cooling help on my car. I was thinking of building/buying and installing one of those pieces of aluminum that goes from the front opening to the radiator to help direct air flow. Have any of you done that? Were you able to buy one or did you fabricate one yourself? Thanks

KSC - I was able to fab one. I found that after I put shroud in nose I improved airflow. but was loosing a lot over the top of radiator. take a look at my pics in profile. The shroud and radiator cover I mocked up using cardboard then cut the nose pieces out of aluminum. But the radiator piece I used a thin steel. I simple ran a pice of angle iron across right above radiator (bolted in). And then laid in the top shroud. only had to cut holes for the hinges to clear.

If you have not already, I would consider a pulling fan on the backside. I have one which pulls a lot of air, I think more than 4000 CFM. Check out these, Flex-a-lite Black Magic X-Treme Electric Puller Fans - Free Shipping on All Orders @ JEGS. My car is runs fairly well without the fan, but in cases when I'm sitting over hot pavement stuck on traffic, I can switch this on (its also on an auto switch) and actually watch the temp drop down the gauge. Plus, it's really nice to have because I can switch it on an work on a hot car engine in just a minute of air cooling surfaces down.

I have a Griffin radiator in the car and I also bought the pulling fan and shroud that went with that radiator. Everything is fine while running around town as long as I'm moving. If I'm in stop and go traffic, the temperature starts to rise. Once I get home the radiator spits out probably a pint of fluid. I just bought a overflow tank and will install soon. Was just thinking I need to make sure the air entering the front of the car goes through the radiator and not under the car.

You are right about air going in through the nose should all go through the radiator. I installed an oil cooler requiring aluminum panels to support the oil cooler then like beastly fabricated the panels around the rad with aluminum so all air has to go through the radiator. Our 460 with 2700cfm puller behind custom copper rad keeps the engine at 190 degrees with no problem same in town traffic. Good Luck
