Hello, I am new to the group but have a question for you guys. I have read and know all the gossip & problems associated with CMC/street beast etc. I am not concerned with it. I may purchase a mid 1990's CMC cobra that is only missing a few things it is a roller with the original gel coat body. what, if any changes do you do/correct on a CMC? I have no issue's with refiberglassing or fabrication as I have build several hand built race cars & a 41 willys glass car with a scratch built frame. I read that the CMC cars are lower then the other kits and it makes for a horrible ride? also read that the kits were set up for a auto trans only,how hard is it to set up for a manual trans?
I plan on going over the frame & welds very closely, have you found the older or newer kits to be better quality either way? the car is in another state so all I have are pic's now?
so any major issue info is greatly appreciated!

Shadow. I put a 5 speed in my CMC. Foot box is very small, may need to wear ballet shoes. Bought my kit in 2006. Fenders on mine were flat, so I built out the rear fenders about 1.5 inches and added a lip. Front fenders about and inch. Hope this helps.

I expanded both foot boxes, check out my photos or i can send you others if it helps.

Question for everyone, what method do you use to get the body on the inside tube while the tub is mounted to the frame? Seems to be very tight/difficult/impossible.

Bought ours in 93,at that time heard nothing but good.
-Lower than others, not so, ride height is builders choice as is ride quality.You want a cruiser build the suspension soft,you want a corner carver build it to do so and even then the ride quility is where it should be.
-Frame welds, no issues with ours,took it to a fabricator to make clearance for undercar exhaust,and add brackets for upper and lower A-arm front suspension.
-Manual trans,not a problem with our 460 powered car also have a cable controled clutch.The foot box is small but we got used to ours very quickly.
-Major issues,non that I could remember other than when mounting the body shim where the glass does not touch the frame.
The way I see it is this car was built originally to be a race car sacrifices had to be made.

Not sure what you are talking about since there were no problems mounting our body to frame other than location and shimming.Also we drilled and tapped the mounting holes no way were we going to use pop rivets.

I was in a similar situation a few years ago. That was why I started this social group. I was searching for information about a early 90's fiberfab body that was on a streetbeast frame. In my opinion the streetbeast reputation went south as a result of two issues they were 1. Crappy business practices 2. Inconsistent production quality. Now for hotrodders like us we face two issues. They are working thru workmanship issues and finding spare parts pieces. Sort of like building any other early 50/60’s hotrod/classic car. I was in your shoes and here is what I did> confirm the body major components are all in good shape-look for warping, alignment and stress cracks. Spare streetbeast pieces are much harder to find than a FFR car and do not exactly match when swapped between cars.

Complete your due diligence on inspecting the parts. When I bought mine I missed the car was running a 7.5 mustang II rear end. Cuz I was in love with the 351W and tremec 3550 that was in it. You will find these cars can be modified quite easily and are very durable when set up properly. And the best part- I was able to get this all done for a fraction of the cost of the most popular cobra replicas for sale today! This car is not for those who want to order thier car and engine from a website then contract with a builder- Beastly

Beastly 100% certain parts from one manufactor to the other will not interchange.Did find though when looking for a hardtop that one top with a little messaging would fit a lot of different brands.
These cars like any kit is not bolt together and drive.If it were that easy what fun would it be.In the end our car has given me more satisfaction and pride of ownership because it turned out so well.Mother and I love this car, it is a little tough driving it and not scaring her.Out alone and on the right roads this car is a pure adreneline rush.
