Well, it has been almost 3 months of working out all of the problems with this car after I got it, but I think I finally have almost everything fixed. What a mess. Too many issues to even list (although I can tell you about each one). I think the worst thing is that someone would delivery such a POS to a customer and call it finished. I used this forum to sort out some of the issues and the information was great. I did not have to ask questions, just search and read. What a great forum. If interested I can discuss some of the MANY problems. I don't want to sound like a whiner as I knew what I was getting into but.... Good news is I have been making it scream the last week or so and my face is sore from smiling.

is that testimony against WCC or Painter? I feel for Painter, b/c this kit requires a lot of re-engineering if you want it "right". If you just put it together as per "factory" suggestion and keeping the price from getting way out of hand, you got pretty much a pile of poo. Painter probably was trying to contain cost for you and got most of it such that it could just be delivered. This kit is from Kellison, but all the components are scrubbed for alternates and junk yard trash. I've been doing, re-doing, and customizing since I got mine 5 years ago. It'll be a super-snake when I'm done. Keep in mind what you have and be kind if you can. If you'd built her on your own, you'd have a better appreciation for the actual work it takes to put a WCC together by Vern's plans, and the results.

Xack, Painter is a good guy and did what he could and I would hire him again and recommend him to anyone. He continues to help me to this day if I have questions. No problem with him, trust me. I went to see him before I picked it up and I appreciate what he had to work with. the thing that makes me scratch my head is the radiator was 50% plugged with a brown crude that looked like casting sand/dirt. It was a new FORD crate motor and maybe they did not have it cleaned out. I don't know. Boiled it out after 3 days of boil and flush and I am not sure it is completely clean but I am close. I may just scrap it and put in a new Ron Davis or Griffin unit this winter. I still have some aluminum flakes in the coolant, pulled WP, flushed block, flushed heater core, still there. Not sure what it is, there is not a lot of it. Ideas?

Thanks for the clarification. Was it a crate engine or was it a re-build? If it was a new rad, was it aluminum or copper? I do not know if Vern's copper radiators are factory or custom (or standard junk yard variety). It may be you got an old radiator? I hope it's nothing from your engine. Did you analyze the residue? I hope you get it worked out and it's nothing catastrophic.

New crate engine from Ford Racing. Aluminum radiator from Vern. Vern's radiators look like a Griffin core and he modifies the inlet and outlet and hose connections at a rad shop in Detroit. Did not analyze it but looks like core sand/dirt. John flushed the block before he fired it up and I think it was in the rad from the beginning. Ford does a pretty good job of cleaning things up and they run it for 20 minutes prior. Talked to FORD tech and they have no idea. Ran good this weekend (195-205) but still too hot at idle (215-220). More fan needed.

I have the same radiator as you apparently. I put in a variable speed fan controller. Sensor on the intake manafold. Turn on at 160, Fan speed = 60%. Engine heat above that adjusts the fan speed from 60% to 100%. This way, if you have idle heat issues, the fan will just run faster to hopefully cool more at idle. (That is if it does not require 100% at highway speeds...)
I have a question regarding your water pump. Which manufacturer? Edelbrock? Stock, If so what does the impeller look like? I was doing research on this and I ended up putting an Edelbrock with an overspeed pulley. If you do have an Edelbrock with the compressor type vanes, it is designed for higher speed applications. You may sacrifice a bit of flow at idle. If it is stock... Guys on 460 Ford Forum swear by Edelbrock to improve heat control...(as we all know individual results may vary) I need to get my ride going and I can't wait to see if my 'improvemnents' are working as I hope!
