Has anyone here used Evans Waterless coolants? I will hit the search on the blogs. But if you have any experience with it, please write me a line.

I have never used Evans coolants, however, i do know that they are a very reliable company. I purchased a water pump from them for a custom Jeep Willys I was building and also the radiator, both parts worked flawlessly and the quality was unsurpassed.

I understand that their coolants are in fact outstanding and if you use it and it works great please let me know I would like to change mine too.

Here is the deal from what I can gather... I did look at 460FordForum. There are some blogs mentioning it, Nothing from a 460 Point of view raving or otherwise, just that someone had a 460 and used it in thier cooling system. I did find some information about it which is pretty much the same on the web site.

It will make your engine run hotter. But you do not need to worry about "Overheating". The problem is with water and Ethelyne Glycol, that you will run up against the wall at the mixture's boiling point. This means anything in contact, like your cylinder jacket and heads which will micro-boil there. This is what actually causes the pressure in your system! That boiling action is UNWANTED because it actually stands in the way of cooling... Using the fluid will produce higher, but more stable overall temperature rather than hot spots and a cool temperature sending unit. Because the boiling point of the fluid is at 350 F, There is NO PRESSURE because there is no micro-boiling at the hotter spots. Also, as a trade-off, it does not have the same heat capacity as water. Your engine will not "overheat" since any heat gains will never be in the boiling temperature range.

Also, corrosion acts as an insulator of heat flow from the engine block to the coolant. Since it will not corrode your engine, it will not cause this problem in the first place. However, it does not have the same heat capacity as water.

that is what I understand. It does not cure a mechanical or other problem related to overheating, it just keeps the fluid from boiling. you still need to make sure temps stay below component failure temps. Theoretically it does that by preventing any steam pockets that cause run away temps. BUT, and its a big one, it does not cure a problem of inadequate fluid or air flow in the system. You need to be comfortable running in the 220+ ranges with it in a BBF. IMO, it is another racing process that may not be the best for streeters. It has a 350 boil temp but at that temp you have a big pile of scrap metal anyway, but it wont boil.

The "operating temperature" is what I'd like to know. How hot would it get and would it stabilize somewhere around 225 ish. I'm sure when you took the load off it would cool down on it's own. Would the peak heat be OK for the most vulnerable components? So yeah, you gotta have a good system. Some folks say that their ride has less temperature fluctuations.

I dont know enough to comment further, I guess my question is what are you worried about temperature fluctuations? Ambient has as much to do with it as anything. I expect 20* fluctuations depending on how I drive it and where I am (traffic, hiway, etc..) With the mechanical gauge I can watch the water cycle and that gauge moves around if I sneeze. Let me know your thoughts on that. She is burped and as long as I stay below 230* WORST CASE for a short time I am fine.

I need to flush my system out since she's been sitting for a while. I'm going to run her with 50/50 for the remainder of the summer. After that I'm going to flush it with Prestone radiator flush and then drain everything. I'll fill her up with "Evans". Later, I'll keep you posted on both before and after temps and conditions. BTW.. I'm getting a new 30% overdrive pulley with my Edelbrock WP, so I'm curious how that will work out with just 50/50.
