Brent,
The original paint scheme is very cool ... one to two months seems pretty quick, look forward to the photos! |
Will be watching! Sounds awesome:MECOOL:

Which paint code did you decide on?

What do you think I should do? Go for what I like best or originality? |
What you want !
Hi,
You have to build it the way you want, the color that you pick is probably the most important as I know I walk by my daytona at least 4 times a day and it would irk me if the color was wrong:) Perry.:) |
Just what Perry said ... I'd say paint it the color you like and if it's not exactly original, that's OK. Maybe there is a color close to an original that you like better, that's an option as well ... there are a lot of different shades of red, that's for sure!
It's a tough decision, but my guess is whatever you choose, it will look great! |
:)Brent,
My opinion is to go with an original color. I would try to replicate a specific car. Pat |
Of all the colours I have seen the MKIV painted, the only one I really did NOT like was the White & Blue with red accents example built from leftovers for Rod Leach...... & dont think Gulf Colours would look right on one either

What are the original colors of the 12 (?) built. Thanks |
I think Rangoon Red would be best. A couple coats of clear (basecoat/clearcoat) richens the color. I have a Cobra model done in this red and it is stunning.
|
Brent, I always like the Rangoon Red color my self. I am sure you could go with most any color as long as it is Red and it would still look correct. I think I have seen a yellow one once as well as a white one in my books.
How about the Candy Apple red? It's a little darker and it is actually my favorite Ford color. http://www.scodemustang.com/images/1967ppg.jpg Good luck with your color choice. Allen |
Sherrie and I went and got some mixed up and I sprayed a scrap aluminum panel and cleared it up....I like it. Done. Going with Rangoon red. Thanks for all the input fellas.
|
Brent,
Good choice. I know Red has been on your list for a long time and Rangoon is a great shade of Red that fits the car perfectly! |
Nothing like progress! :) Rich and the guys over at G & L http://gandlbodyshop.com/ have been busy on the MKIV. One of the really great things about working with them to this point is that Rich has been open to me coming in and doing odds and ends on the car while there at the shop. He found some stuff that needed to be worked on from my end and I came in for a couple of hours to shape a little metal on the spoiler, etc. Offered me tools and air and a helping hand while I was there. Cool!
Well, here are some of the progress pics. I think they are pretty much ready to do a full coat of primer and then block that out as the next step in the process. One of the neat things I decided to do (at least I think it's neat), is to extend the inside surface of the scoop thingy's (see pictures) so that the extend beyond where just the hole would have been to give it a bit more finished look. Not exactly like original I guess, but I think it will look better. Rich found that my shoddy glasswork wasn't quite up to snuff and reinforced a bit and then filled/smoothed the inlets. Looks great! http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...03/G_L_129.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...03/G_L_724.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...03/G_L_727.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...03/G_L_726.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...03/G_L_725.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...03/G_L_722.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...03/G_L_723.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...03/G_L_729.jpg |
Yup, looks like body work! When's the paint slated to be finished?
|
I think you picked the right color, and I'm not saying that because I drive a red Cobra either. Nice build...I've enjoyed watching the tin work. That's something that I'm considering tinkering with for my trunk area...may look to you for pointers down the road.
