Default 10 Automobiles I would pick over the Ford GT

I received a PM asking what cars I enjoyed better than the Ford GT. Well every day is a new day and tastes change and one day I may enjoy this one better than the other. Lines of a car, engineering, mood of the day are factors. Now because of this I took the Bruce Meyer approach. When he adds to his collection he sells one to make space for a new one. Hence he must like the newer auto better than the one it replaces. With that in mind here goes. (I won't mention any early cars manufactured in Stamford, Norwalk or anywhere in Connecticut).

Cunningham Special --Commemorates three speed records by DePalma at Sheepshead Speedway. One of the first boattail designs.

Maybach V-12 Zeppelin

Stout Scarab

M-B 540K Special Roadster

'37 Peugeot 402 Darl'Mat Roadster

Pegaso Z

MB 300SL alloy

Jaguar E type

Bizzarrini 5300GT

And a tons of American muscle!

I think it would be tougher if it was the GT40 because the Ford GT had a large number made and more or less a reason to make a tribute car.

I would also pick the McLaren F1, P1 and next years limited P1 track.

I'm shocked u don't have a Datsun 240z on your list! It is the most beautiful coupe shape after the Jag E !

I had an original 240z; the car lasted about 1 year before rust ate up the entire driver's side; sold it for $400 and bought a fake Buick Grand National (black Regal)

Guess it depends on the topography.

Sometimes a Jeep CJ or 1st gen Bronco is better.

I had a very modified 73. One of the best cars I've ever owned and wish to this day I hadn't sold it.

I too had a 1973 240Z. Bought it new when I got my first job. Wish I still had it! It was a fun, sporty car and great for mountain roads or long trips. Kept it for 11 years and never had a spot of rust, but living in the south helps tremendously!

I had a 1982 Pontiac Grand Prix. It threw a rod right through the block.

Boy do i miss that car.

Only because CJ7 drivers are, as Awnold would put it...girlie boys.

I'm going for the Big Oly approach. Low, fast and tough. Used to do pre-running with a client's team out of Mexicali...though I truly liked the Rubicon as well (but that's a different build).

Getting back to the thread...Bizzarrini...mucho muy goodo.

Rolled my old 67 (thankfully with a 6 point cage, but no seat belts) back in 1981 when a child ran out in front of me at 35mph (at least I think I was doing 35mph as the speedo was never accurate). Bumps, bruises, scrapes, scratches, but I lived . Poor Bronco did not fair as well, twisted frame, hardtop trashed beyond my repair, axle broken......Promised my parents I would not buy another, so I went out and bought a CJ7 instead.

I could list 100 but went through what was personal to me. I smoked many 240's in my day. I don't own one though. Does a Toyota 2000 GT count?

I know a few collectors that after they were settled in their careers started to buy several of the 240's and later versions.

2000 GT of course counts...Shelby touched a few.

Of course the convertible model is even more mucho muy goodo...but you have to live twice to have one.

I could use a bit more clarity on OP's viewpoint, to deliver mine.

A couple things must be determined first:

1) Has the OP ever owned or driven an FGT?

2) Has the OP ever owned or driven any of the other cars chosen over the FGT?

To intelligently contemplate one over another we have to know if the OP weighs the decision on subjectivity - love of the design, style, engineering, build quality, driving characteristics, ergonomics and tactile emotions etc.
Or is he objective from an economic, or investment potential standpoint.

.............or both?

To choose another over the FGT one must experience the subject matter first.

Of course this is IMHO.

I was lucky to inspect a '67 2000GT at RM Auction at Sotheby's, NYC, last year and the car is stunning in person; they just don't design cars like that anymore.

Maybe in 20 years, car auction companies will change out the inventory and include more imports like Skyline GTRs, WRXs, RX7s, Evos, GTIs, Corrados. These were the cars my age group tuned & raced.
