New GT-40 Forum
Jeff Frigo had a great idea to add a GT forum. Here it is. This could be bad for those of us who have this great car on our short list of cars to own. :)

Brent:
Thank you very much. I would guess the ratio of Cobra replicas to GT-40's is around 25:1 or more. I don't think there is much to worry about just yet. Besides, someday when I can afford to graduate to a 40 (old style, not new), that will mean a new person will get into the Cobra family. |
You know those GT-40's sure seem to command a high price in re-sale. But I heard they don't hold their value that well from a reliable source. Hmmmmmm.....the ones for sale haven't exactly been "moving" that fast either.

excaliber,
just herd of sombody in the new england area that just paid $75,000.00 for a ten year old GTD gt40. thats a little high, but none the less, thats about as good as a return as somone can get. Like cobras, alot depends on the manufactor, and or how and who built it. |
Personally I like the looks of the Daytona Coupe over the GT-40, granted the 40 has the "racing heritage".
Having had the chance to sit in replicas of both, the 40 seemed ,like what I imagine it would feel like to sit in a sardine can, no wonder why Dan Gurney needed the "Bubble". My wife does prefer the 40 over the Daytona, cuz it's "cute". (she's only 5'2) Would I not take a 40 if given to me?--- think I'm nuts. But this just IMO, like it's worth much :D |
interior space
GR
gt40's are not none for being roomy, but cav's new monoque chassis, with adjustable peddals allows much more headroom then the space frame chassis. 6'3" is a little snug, but works.Lets face it,somtimes we give up a little confort for performance...my cobra with the top on is snug...but who cares... A few years ago I drove 4 hours to limerock motor park in a cobra, raced in 3 heats and drove it home the same day, that was uncomfortable,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but worth it..... |
I think the GT is a much better looking car than the Daytona- but thats personal opinion- and mabey I am just the perfect size- but I think the GT interior is a perfect fit- now if there were only wind down windows......
I hope to someday not just be able to sit in one but to won one- anyone know where a strugglin college student can pick up a GT for around $4000? I may be dreamin- but there is no piont to dreaming if you cant dream big! |
Horse
I agree, the 40 has a timeless body design and is still turning heads 40 years later..I can't help you with a gt40 for $4000.00, and don't hold your breath waiting for roll down window either, but if you find yourself on long Island, New York,I'll give you a spin any time............ |
The CAV is now available in a spyder version. It sort of looks like a targa roof when removed. Concerning the interior space. The GT40 demonstrator that I am finishing up (see www.2gmotorsports.com) has plenty of room. I am 6'1" and when seated have 2.5" to 3" of head clearance and my legs are fully extended to reach the pedals.
Thanks Gary |
