Default Wanting to bring in the new year right

I am very interested in a GT-40 now, will most likely keep my BackDraft Cobra, but I want another toy. I am extremly new to this side of the hobby, what is the differences mainly between the MK models and on a used aspect what can I expect to pay for a good quality GT-40, Yes i want to buy and not build.

Welcome to the GT40 world.
There are really four body styles available .

The Mk1 is the most famous and the one replicated the most...in various guises such as the big flared tail of the Gulf car..

The Mk2 has twin rear air intakes behind the B pillar and also has small snorkels ontop of the rear deck.

The Mk4 is the only true American car to win Le Man ( built in Detroit)..it is a longer ,lower and a more squared off car with no carry over styling from the previous generations.

Mk3 cars are available but very very few were made and they are normally older lower spec cars from the UK...Ford built them as road cars and not very succesful ones at that.

If you are looking for a finished driving car then expect to start your search in the high 60's to mid 80's for a high spec current manufacturers car...

I have a couple of customers that purchase and build cars for resale ...feel free to get in touch if you would like more information..they are brand new high spec.... www.racecarreplicas.com

Good luck with your search...

Bill,

I already said that...

"The Mk1 is the most famous and the one replicated the most...in various guises such as the big flared tail of the Gulf car.."

a good quailty GT40 replica will cost you 75-110 K. The most common ones found in the US are CAV's and Superformances, both made in South Africa. Frans' car from RCR is really coming on strong but there are only a few on the road as of now, but that is changing fast. I found my car on the GT40 forum and love it. The MK1's are prettier than the MK11's, but if you want a big block ther MK11 is the way to go. I highly suggest you find one to drive. They are not easy to live with as they are very low and vision is limited, however,I drive mine 3 times as much as my Kirkham. It is cool in the summer and warm in the winter and is absolutly the best looking car I have ever seen.

Chuck...I was refering to used not new cars..your range is correct for a custom built new machine...sorry for any confusion...

Nice to see that the RCR cars are being completed quickly by the deveoted fans of the GT40....and Deans is certainly a rocket of a ride...no doubt...

(FFR has sold 140 GTM's and only ten are done after 2 1/2 years...but I digress.)
