A Man and a Woman GT40 clip

When I visit my buddy who has 1,000 or more films one I like to cue up
is Man and a Woman by Claude Lalouche (sp?)
There's a scene where the hero goes to an old racetrack in France, one that's banked, and tests a GT40 coupe,a white 289. The sound of the engine is fantastic, sounds like it has a flat plane crank. At one point he gets the car
up to speed on the banking and lets go of the wheel to see how stable it is.
The rest of the movie proceeds at a snail's pace after that high point. Don't know if it's available on DVD but probably some VHS copies around.

Actually I sort of liked that movie. The theme song continues to play in my head 40 years later.

The ultimate "date" movie of the mid-1960s (1666 to be exact), Claude Lelouch's film stars Jean-Louis Trintignant and Anouk Aimée in the title roles. The twosome meet at the boarding school where their children are enrolled. Aimée, an actress, misses her train home, and Trintignant, a professional race car driver, offers her a ride. It is the first of several friendly encounters which eventually blossom into love. Both want to commit to each other, but neither can shake the Past. The now-famous climactic scene in a train station was not scripted at the time of shooting, thus Aimée was unaware that director Lelouch had decided upon a tearful reunion between her and Trintignant. This explains the look of utter surprise on the actress' face. Much has been written about the possible motivation behind Lelouch's decision to film some scenes in color, others in black-and-white. None of the more ardent auterists truly want to hear the director's explanation: he'd run short of money halfway through production, and black-and-white film stock was infinitely cheaper. The winner of two Oscars (one for Best Foreign Film), A Man and A Woman also scored on the "top ten" with its memorable theme music by Francis Lai. A sequel, A Man and a Woman: 20 Years Later (Un homme et une femme, 20 ans déjà) appeared... twenty years later.

Here's my theory why some was shot in black and white and some in color.
Maybe some PR footage was available in color so he threw that in. what the hey! Also the film Rendezvous, which features an unknown car careening through paris (I think he runs at least 15 stoplights) was supposed to have been filmed by his camera car around the same time. That's a lot more exciting than A Man and a Woman. If you watch it, turn it up to full volume
it's available on DVDs though copied so many times it's pretty fuzzy by now.
I think the car is a Dino by the sound but can't tell. It seems to have a
crashbox,unsynchronized gears by the downshifting doubleclutching required.

"Rendezvous" was debunked as being filmed from a Mercedes driven by Claude Lelouch and Ferrari-noise was overdubbed in post-production.

Speaking as a V8 mercedes owner, I felt vindicated that "Rendezvous" was a V8 Benz. a 450SEL 6.9 in fact, yes a 7L Benz. 2 full liters above my S500.
