Default 289 Slab-side body

Mike (et al),

Have you guys had any interest in offering a totally street-oritented type of car with no fender flares or rollbars, like the early slab-sided AC's with the 260/289 motors?

One of my earliest car fantasies was this type of car, and it was even more reinforced the many times I saw the one that Doug Feiger of The Knack used to drive around the streets of Hollywood a few years back.

I had my eye on just such a car, and still do although I'm not so eager now that I have a Superformance Mk III. I was never satisfied that the few manufacturers I located had a product equal to the Superformance and I had no interest in building a car myself. Two months after I took possession of the Superformance Kirkham came out with a hybrid; a 289 Cobra street car body on a coil-sping chassis. The best of both worlds, in my opinion.

No second thoughts and who knows? One day I may buy another, smaller Cobra that looks a lot like the Healys and MGAs of it's day.

That's a nice lookin' slabside! I've always liked that slabside with the extended flare look. I would have been tempted if someone had made that body style when i purchased mine.
bgravolet likes this.

Jack,
We have had a few requests to do a street 427 version and would like to do one in the future. We really don't have any plans to do a slab side 289 any time soon but we will certainly take the suggestion into consideration. I personally like the clean look of the street cars without the roll bars, side pipes or hood scoop.

BTW - your binary tag line is hilarious

Hi Guys,

The car in the ad belongs to one of the BACC members, it is a JCF and that company has been making the slabside for a number of years. JCF is located in the Pacific NW, I think somewhere around Seattle.

If somebody were interested I could put you in contact with the owner and you could try to work a deal outside of the consignment shop where he has it for sale.

I was just going to ask about this JCF company..is there a web address? That slabside looks very nice and with a little detail work I (the cowl edges are too thin) I think would be outstanding! I would really like to know what suspension they use and some mfg details because I would like to build a car for my wife (her request!!) and the 289 would be a great choice.

Sean,

Your father makes a great slabside! I wanted one but could never reach him so I bought a CCX. I know he makes one with a IRS and details correct. Can he also make one using 3" tubular frame rails? Would still like to see what he has to offer. Have contact information?

Jeff

Mike and Rich did have a 289 project in the works. I was at the factory in Lee's Summit a couple of summers ago and saw it. Nice work, even had an oil cooler scoop, but not a slab side. Definitely some flared fenders there.

I mentioned this in an email to the current owner and he indicated he would be interested in producing a 289 model, and mentioned something about the project mule I had seen being chopped in two..........nothing further. I keep my eyes on the forum on the Hurricane website, not much happening these days there.

If anyone is interested here, and looking for a brand new / completed JCF Slabside Cobra, I may have one for sale through a referral. All new car and build, just about completed. The main things it needs is the customer's pick on wheels; either knock-off wires, or FIA, or whatever is preferred. Will be sold completed for around $35k for a quick sale. Rare situation, These are not easy to find... I will know more about it, and if its going to be available in a week or so.

- Street theme
- No rollbar
- 289 grille
- Small Block Ford, 5spd
- IRS
- Solid Dark Metalic Blue

Please send me a PM through Clubcobra if interested.

Two over the years, one was a very nicely finished car, the other had rough welds on the frame that scared the heck out of me as the owner was driving the car and had done so for over 2,000 miles (in West Palm Beach, Florida). Come to think of it, reminds me of a triple white FFR I bought two years ago for 15K (also from Florida, go figure), got it off the transport truck, went to get out and tripped, pulled the whole upper steering shaft out with the wheel I grabbed to stop my fall. Just an accident waiting to happen. I pulled the body and sold it as an unfinished restoration project to a dealer in south NJ with full disclosure and a list of things that required work before he put the body back on. Happy to just get my money back out of it. Sorry, I rambled a bit.....

What have you got on your hands?

The yellow one in the classifieds looks like one of their better builds. Again, they had good builds, and not so good builds you have to look at each one carefully.
