Hurricane Ohio Raffle Car
I have read over on the Hurricane Forum that Hurricane is building a raffle car. Since most can't access the complete Hurricane Forum without owning a Huirricane, why doesn't Hurrican post the build here. For those of us that are fans of the car it would be nice to be able to see the pictures of the build as it progresses.

Sorry Wbulk that we haven't got that started yet as we are working with the Ohio Cobra Club on this. We want them involved and since they just made the anouncement a week a go, we haven't got it started. But it is coming If anyone has any questions or wants certain pictures please comment on the thread which should be up today!
Thanks
Dusty

I've been a fan of the Hurricane product and a promoter of their product for a long time...but this issue is a big one for me. I have alienated many of the Hurricane bretheren with my view...it's like a high school club, you can't belong unless you own one, you can't see what kind of skeletons hang in our closet unlesss you pledge by buying one, that sort of thing.
Dusty...I can't imagine I'm the only one who feels that Hurricane is hiding something. I've proposed this a few times on the Hurricane website's forum, haven't received any replies, so I feel like it's being ignored, swept under the carpet like some cobwebs nobody wants the company to see.
Why not allow "Read ONLY" access to "The Dark Side" for those who are serious enough about buying a Hurricane kit to join in on the forum discussions? It would make the product seem more accessible and diminish that feeling that there is something(s) being hidden until the $$ is on the table.
Just my $.02 worth, and I know it's like beating a dead horse, so come on, guys, flame away, I'm use to it....but you know in your heart I'm right about the IMPRESSION the policy creates, even if I might be wrong about what is being hidden, as so many of you claim.
PS--SO glad to see Hurricane is going to donate to the effort...cheers for your generosity!!!!
Dugly

Disclaimer: I post this out in the open and hope both of my access accounts listed below are not sanctioned or removed.
Having signed up for an account in July of 2007 (I do have 7 posts that show up in a search ) I have access so I can watch the builds and such. I believe I still have access to my SPF account even though I no longer own a SPF.
In my mind, having transparent access is important, at least for me, as I broker these cars regardless of make/model, and need to know as much as I can about all of them so that I may do so to the best of my ability.

And its simply killing you isn't it?
Sitting in first class requires that you buy a ticket.
Congrats to Hurricane for supplying this year's raffle car.

Disclaimer: I don't own a Hurricane and am not a member of the club.
First - Kudos to Hurricane for joining in on this charitable donation. Good on you!
Dugly:
Wow, I think posting your beefs on folks not being let into the club on a thread about
a charitable donation car is poor form. You should have started your own thread.
Now that you have, you should get over it and move on. If the owners of Hurricanes want an exclusive forum, they have a right to that, just as any club has a right to restrict membership to those that share the club's common aspect. To suggest this is hiding skeleton's in the closet is paranoid at best, and may be libel at the worst. The forum is just a club gathering place and the membership dues are to own a Hurricane - Simple. As an analogy, if I want access to one of the exclusive golf/country clubs here in Phoenix, I have to either own property in a particular community or pay big bucks to join from outside. This makes them exclusive - they exclude those that do not pony-up. You may not agree with it, but it is kind of the definition of a club... Only those who share the common aspect of the club are in the club. Let these nice folks have their exclusive club and move on.

There's a hidden section of the forum that is owners-only. The main reason its closed is we didn't want non-owners commenting on how to build the cars. (Google "Weaving Spiders Come Not Here.") We wanted all commentary to be from those with direct Hurricane build experience. What has resulted is very pure, almost BS-free set of threads that are easy to search for solutions without having to wade through mindless chatter from the peanut gallery. But back in 2008 when Hurricane was struggling before it was sold to the new ownership, there were a few threads about the issues and some much-needed venting. Nothing bad about the cars, but the urban legend, and envy, continues.....

Dan's right, there are quite a few build threads on the public side .
If you want to see some incredible aluminum work, go to the public side and take a look at the Hurricane cars built by Alfredo Canalizo....hope I spelled his name right. He builds Hurricanes in Mexico...world class work, IMHO!
Really, guys....I didn't expect you to like my comments....just think the Hurricane secret garden idea is a bad business model, short sighted and self-defeating, and don't mind speaking my mind even it it does stir up the $H1+ . Their product, however, is first class, IMHO, and given the choice between a Hurricane and anything less than a Shelby, a Kirkham or an ERA I would find it hard to choose another brand over the Hurricane.
If only they made a 289 FIA model!

Ergo my suggestion for "READ ONLY" membership
Cheers (from one of the peanuts )!

Couldn't have said it better myself. When the decision was made all those years ago to keep it private we knew there would be fallout. I think the resulting experience for the owners could not have been better. Everyone felt "safe" making whatever comments they wanted without fear of some troll taking things into the weeds. I still totally stand by the decision.
There are other forums I belong to that require an annual subscription and it works the same way - the people that are there are positive, engaged, enthusiastic and more than willing to help others. It makes total sense to me.
My two cents - worth probably about that much too

Even though we are doing a build thread on Club Cobra, I would encourage all to check out the build thread on the Hurricane website. It could be a little more up to date.
And everyone remember that this raffle car is for a good cause!!!

Dusty, I go over to your forum and I can read the build thread but can't see any pictures. Is there a special secret to see the pictures?

I think you can see the pictures if you go to the Hurricane web site and click on "public section".

Dusty, I saw the painted car over on the Hurricane Forum. It looks great. Can give me the paint code for the color?
One other question. With the straight axle what weight rear springs are you running? It seems with straight axles most manufactures are running springs from 185 to 250 except cars set up for tracks.
Thanks.
