390FE or 351w (stroked to a 427)
Would you rather a 390FE or 351w (stroked to a 427)? The 390FE would be more origanal than a 351w But there is a lot of great after market parts for the 351w. They are both great motors but I am unsure what I would rather have and would like to hear your opion.
Thanks,
Josh

This one seems clear. Is the priority, the best look, or lots of power in a lighter package.

The FE is more period correct and IMO will get you more ogling and resale value in the future.
The 390 can make big power with the right parts, as can the 351W. Parts are readily available for FE's these days...and it's easy to get 550hp and 550 lb-ft out of a 390 with a stroker kit and some good heads.

Where is a reasonable place to buy a motor from? Any good companies or websites?

There are several good builders that advertise here. Keith Craft, Southern Automotive, Gessford Machine, are a few.

Bob
I was going to call them today. How was the service? Would you buy one again from them? What motor did you get from them? (stroked)

Big Blocks
Does the Hurricane Kit come with the right headers for a Big Block as well as motor mounts? Is that something you have to tell them when you purchase the kit? Just wondering how they know what you are putting in the engine compartment?

Headers
Josh,
The kit will come with complete exhaust for the engine of your choice. That will include the headers and side pipes. Hope this helps.

I've called Tuff Dawgs a couple of times for support and they've been very helpful. Also, they welded an oil temperature bung in the side of the oil pan for me at my request for an additional $75. I felt that was reasonable considering the cost of an aftermarket pan.

Make sure you invest in forged pistons.... I notice that many of their builds do not include them.
Go for alluminum heads as well, run cooler, more power, less weight.

You can stroke a 390 as well, 4.08 bore, 4.250 stroke = 441 cubic inches.
4.08 bore , 3.98 stroke = 414 cubic inches.
You can get reasonably priced parts for either engine, but obviously there is a much greater range of parts for the 351W.
Starting with a factory cast iron block, I would guess the build cost wouold be similar no matter which engine, either using a stock crank or a stroker crank.
