Default Headrest

Has anyone fabricated a suitable rollbar mounted headrest for their Kirkham? The crossbar looks to be a good place to mount a headrest stylistically consistent with the car but reducing the probability of a skull fracture. Can someone post some pictures, or is this my opportunity to contribute to the forum?

Mark,

I believe that headrest are a safety requirement in New Zealand. You might want to contact Kirkham directly to see if they have previously built a headrest.

Here's a link to an article with some pics of a headrest in an a Superformance.

SPF - Magazine article

The only other option is high back seats.

Mark,

One other point. IMHO, these cars are about as safe as a motorcycle (only difference is 4 wheels vs. 2)

People need to take the necessary safety precautions that will make them and their passengers feel safe and comfortable. In the end, all of the safety precautions in the world (two roll bars, high back seats, etc.) may not cover all of the potential variables that someone may encounter in an accident.

Doug

I agree that we are discussing stochastic phenomena. A headrest on the crossbar would reduce the chance of head injury in an event without going with a period inappropriate highback seat. I will continue to experiment...

Mark -- Dennis had a KMP with one recently -- you can see it in some of the photos, I am sure the former owner could shed some light.

That's Igofastr's former KMP. He's building a GT40 now.
