Default Kirkham brake light switch

My hydraulic brake light switch is giving up the ghost.
Any of you replace your original, maybe even with a low pressure switch?
Do any of you know the fitting size?

Thanks!

I can't even remember the last time I depressed my brake pedal.

That's kind of surprising, considering you depress us all the time.

Sit in your dark garage and press the pedal. You'd be surprised what it takes to make the lights turn on. Mine's been getting worse (~6500 miles) and now it only comes on when I press really hard and then let up a tiny bit. There could be an air bubble in the switch but it's behavior is changing, so I kind of doubt it. I think it's just aging.
There's low pressure options but I'm just looking for folks who have been there.
My switch might even be a Lucas part.

For someone as qualified as you, is replacing the switch that difficult?

Pull it out and take it to the local NAPA auto parts store. Alternatively, why not call the Kirkham's and ask them to ship you one?

Seems simple to me.

Your last option is to sell the Kirkham. Too much of a maintenance nightmare with all that powdercoating parts, new Vintage wheels and GYBB's, brushing the exterior and replacing hydraulic brake switches.

I think it is the Ford switch P/N C1AZ-13480-A Available aftermarket but the Ford switches really are superior and have a higher burst pressure rating.

Mark IV,
Good options there. I'll have to change the electrical connectors but that's cake.

Rodknock,
I'd like to make a "wet" switcheroo. So taking said part to Napa would only take place if I bled the system.
That's why I wanted to have some options in advance

Pictures or it never happened.

And don't forget to tell me your thoughts on the Vintage Gold wheels.

Hey rodneym:

Years ago I purchased this low pressure switch over here on the right coast.

My old one hadn't failed, but the pressure required to activate it was high enough that folks would sometimes pull beside me and tell me my brake lights weren't working.

*ding ding ding* Prize goes to David!

I saw the Ron Francis unit but that connector is a bit funky.
What I can't seem to find is a low pressure, exact fit replacement.
I'm think I'm gonna have to 'give in' to different terminals.
Oh well, simple enough for this shade tree McGruber.

Thanks!

rodneym,
I initially had the same impression re: the connector. But....when I installed it and made the connection, it proved to be solid. I've had no issues with it for five or six years!
