Hi there

I am currently having an aluminium car built. It's not a Kirkham but is made by a UK based builder in a very similar way

I am really interested in how you US guys protect your brushed bodies if you don't live in dry states? Is there a sealer/protector that anyone uses to keep the aluminium protected?

I intend to paint at some stage but would like to leave it brushed for a while

Cheers

Paul

Hello Paul, and welcome to the club. I'm sorry that I cannot help with the technical question, but while we wait for responses from those qualified to assist, I'd love to hear more about your Cobra. Would you share some details about the car, i.e: chassis construction, drivetrain plans, origin of body shape/buck and whether this is a one-off project or the start of a production run of alloy-bodied Cobras by a new manufacturer?

Hi,

No I have #3 although both cars are at a similar build stage right now.

Each has a finished body and frame and is waiting for the running gear to finish being made

Getting close now though, hopefully both will be rolling chassis before long

Cheers

Hi Paul,

Welcome to the forum.

With regard to protecting the aluminium, I don't. I've even stopped polishing mine. It hasn't been polished now in 2 years and it still looks great, although the possibly not quite as shiny as it once was, but I like that.

The aluminium is really high quality and doesn't tarnish at all. I just use a vinegar type window cleaner to get dead flies and finger prints off. However, bear in mind that mine is polished and yours is brushed. The brushed finish is perfectly designed to hold onto every atom of dirt and every smear of grease, so be prepared for many hours of cleaning.

Paul
