That's fast with 1965 suspension. No power steering, gear and sector steering box, rear springs and shackles, helical gear transmission. Damn, I want one.
You shoulda bought the one in my avatar a few years ago when I sold it........the car with 16 gallons of gas in the fuel cell, ready to race weighed in at a tad over 2700 pounds and that is with factory front /rear glass...lexan in the front and rear would take off 50 pounds maybe and I had at least 75 pounds of extra bars in the roll cage....2500 to 2550 would easily be possible for about $400.00..............

580 hp would be nice,my homebuilt /swap meet parts engine made 475hp/440 torque..... no way could I afford 35 thou. for a race engine, had a lot less than that in the whole car race ready!!!!!!!!!!

There is one 65 Mustang out there Vintage racing with a chrome moly cage that actually has been weighed at a tad UNDER 2500 pounds!!!!!!!!!!!!

And that 580 hp will run you about $30,000. Of course, longevity becomes a concern too. When you are pushing high hp numbers through an engine the internals tend to break down sooner and the engine needs to be refreshed more often.

I remember your car, you couldn't build it for the price you sold it for. I was considering it.

Sold it to a guy in Tulsa,Ok. and the following year he entered it in the 2014 Silver Stone Classic in England...He hired Tom Roche,6 time UK national champ in the Spec Miata class to drive the car......

He won the Mustang Vintage race in my car and came in third in the open Vintage race behind 2 lightweight Falcons.....

Here is some in-car video.....he had to change the seat and fuel cell as they were just over 10 years old at the time, otherwise it was raced just like the day he bought it from me........

it's hard to tell, but the shift light in the tach was set on 6000 rpms,Tom was shifting mostly on the rev limiter at 7000 rpms!!!!!!!!
