Default KMP 427 wiring.

Hi fellas. Just finishing up my 427 build. I’m struggling to figure out one wire. It’s located next to the steering column and is red in colour. It hangs about 6 inches out of the main harness and has a hoop fitting. Any ideas?

I would venture to say its power for the gauges or gauge lights. The ring terminal would attach to one of the posts on the IGN switch - either IGN or ACC.

You don't indicate whose kit you are building, although this is the Kirkham forum and Mike (ERA 626) thinks it is a Kirkham. Irrespective of that, recommendation #1 is go to the kit manufacturer's build doc and see what the doc says the wire is for. Once you find that, connect it as directed by the build doc.

An almost always good suggestion is red wires are hot wires, black or white wires tend to be ground or common wires. What needs power in close proximity to the ring terminal? Chances are that is where it should be connected.

Always better to know than guess, which brings us back to the build doc and doing it right. You would feel real bad if you did it wrong and it caused a fire that consumed the car before you had a chance to drive it ...

Gauge, billet pedals say it's a KMP.

You're right Rodney. I missed that. The lack of a Kirkham cap on the steering wheel center misled me ...

Hi guys! My apologies. Yes....its a recent Kirkham 427 car. I have the rear running lights working on the car, but since the build was completed I cannot get my rear brake lights and rear signal lights to work. Not sure if this red wire is the culprit.
