Kirkham and Rich Lacy Come Through BIG TIME!!!
Last night, my dream of owning a Kirkham leaf-spring 289 fia finally came true. S023 was completed by the Kirkhams Saturday and Rich Lacy of Rich's Classic Tranport delivered it last night.
The Kirkhams were great to work with. I wanted a very authentic looking and well detailed 289 fia, and they came through. They were also very patient over the past several months about answering all of my endless questions. (I'm sure I was a real pain in the rear - but they never let on that I bothered them)
Rich Lacy is a class act as well. He's a great communicator and extremely conscientious. I knew my car was in good hands. I would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone. Rich is also very flexible. He gave me the option of taking delivery of the car last night (at 11:30 pm nonetheless) or this morning. Of couse I chose last night.
Now the fun begins. I am one of the insane individuals that is sanding my own car. I know its going to be a lot of work, but hopefully I will have a car that will look about 1/3 as good as Pat Buckley's car.

Great car...however either raise your rollbar or lower your seat!!! You'll be even taller with a helmet and may not make tech

ERA Chas,
Being 6'5" has its advantages sometimes.....comfortably driving a Cobra is probably not one of them. I plan to put a racing bucket in it as some point. At this point, I will be set up to look like a race car, but I will be driving on the street most of the time. At some point maybe I'll raise the rollbar too.

Rich Lacey and his brother are on my hero list
For doing a tag team pickup of my cobra (rescuing it in fact) from the clutches of West Coast Cobra during the winter. They risked snow and bad weather to rescue my "turnkey" snake and I'll forever be grateful.
If I ever buy an aluminum cobra the Kirkham would also be at the top of the list. The Kirkhams make a quality cobra and stand behind their products from what I have seen. Enjoy your snake.. It's almost certain to be a given!

Jamo- I did not get any mods. I am 6'5" and 225 pounds. Remarkablely I fit in the car very comfortably despite how the pics may look. I don't know if the dropped footbox is possible on the leaf-spring cars like mine. I may put a racing bucket in at some point, so I sit a little lower.

OK...first thing, remove the seat track under the driver's seat. Call the boys for the adaptor that takes its place. You'll pick up a couple of inches right there.

How is your sanding coming along. I have all of the supplies I need, but so far I have just stared at them  .
Btw, are you using a 289? If so, how aggressive of a motor are you going to use?

Yes it is. Keep us posted on your progress. I'll be doing some sanding as well. Get a breather, they say exposure to aluminum cause alzhiemers. Wouldn't want you to forget where you parked your car.

Mike, congrats on the beauty! Right about the breather, and, be prepared for fun!
I thought polishing the stripes in would be a relatively simple job....errrr....50+hrs later for a couple stinking stripes, and they aint perfect.

I am trying to keep low expectations on the sanding, because to be perfectly honest, the filed finish does not look all that bad - bare aluminum has a lot of shock value judging by the reactions of my friends and family that have seen the car.
Tom Kirkham told me to sand with 120 grit (3M "Stickit") automotive sandpaper with Dawn dish detergent. It basically eliminates the dust, but I am using a respirator to be on the safe side.
Eventually, I may paint the car anyways. (I want to paint is like a '64 daytona coupe - viking blue with thin twin white stripes and the big meatballs, etc.)
It should be an adventure sanding it nonetheless.

Brent - I think your stripes look good in the pictures - your are probably being overcritical.

Congrats on the new baby .......I just took my track out after 3 years and I love the new position . If you are thinking about a comp seat contact Steve Sunshine CSX4027 . He has the Ken Miles Comp seats and they are really cool.
