Default Optima batteries

Anybody know if Optima makes a battery that'll fit in the Kirkham tray. If so, do you have a part number?

Thanks, Ron

I think you will have to buy 2 6volts and wire them together. They should fit the box just fine.

I can't say much about the Superformance. On the Kirkham, there are two smaller (aircraft ?) batteries sitting side by side behind the passenger seat. Normal auto batteries will not fit. Is this the same as the Superformance?

As for the Optima web site, the batteries seem to be listed by auto model and make, and doesn't really help me sort out the correct model. It certainly wouldn't be anything typically found in a car.

I have two Optima batteries behind the passenger seat. The number on them is 8010-044. They are 6 volt hooked in series. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Your welcome. I don't know enough to contribute to the forum usually so when something comes up that I can answer I feel pretty good about it.

I just saw this post and hope you didn't buy the Optima batteries because they will not fit in the battery tray supplied by the Kirkhams. I think Shelby makes a tray that will fit them, but the Kirkham is for slightly smaller batteries.

Dreamer,

Thanks for the heads up, those Optimas are not cheap, so I'd hate to buy two of them, only to find out that they don't fit.

Here we go again, anybody know if Optima make batteries that will fit in my Kirkham? I could go with other batteries, but would prefer Optima.

Double Ugly, I would've guessed that the trays would have been the same size, too.

Here's a link from the Kirkham site:

http://www.km289.com/information/batteries/

I couldn't find that exact one so I have two batteries from Sears that are actually 12V tractor batteries wired together.

Unless Kirkham has changed their tray, the 6 volt optimas won't fit. The batteries xlr8or posted work pretty good, and I can get them locally for $45 each, so they are inexpensive.

I asked the guy at the battery shop where I buy them (they had hundreds in stock) and he said they are used in slot machines as backup for power outages!!

Xlr8or,

Thanks for the link. I'll head over to our local distributor on Saturday. I called, and they have sealed batteries in stock. Oh, well for Optimas...not very "period", but great reputation.

Optima doesn't make a battery that will fit. I wanted to use them as well. There seems to be many gel batteries in the right size available from Battery Warehouse, or whatever battery specialty store in your area. Remember, the type of post is important and you want the small screw on terminals.

Two 6V batteries connected positive to negative in series will be ok but connected positive to negative in parralel will explode
Cheers,
Bryan

sorry for not being more explict but posative cable from car's wiring harness (alternator / starter) to posative lead on first battery, negative terminal of first battery connescted to posative of the second battery and negative of second battery connected to wiring harness / ground. I mentioned in parallel because I had seen that term used else where with regards to batteries and cobras and was unsure of the definition.
