Talking Dumb Question: McCleod ministarter hookup?

While I'm in the mood to ask dumb questions...I trying to figure out how to hook up my McCleod ministarter to the 427 on my Kirkham. I appear to have one red fairly large gauge cable to attach to the starter/solenoid. Where does it go? The solenoid has a small jumper between two spade connectors, and two posts with nuts. One nut is finger tight, and I suspect the cable goes here. I don't really see anything to attach the cable to the started itself. BTW...The starter is self-grounding to the motor, correct?

That begs the question...where is the motor grounded? True, it is attached to the frame by two motor mounts, but these are rubber coated, and I can't see how they would provide a decent ground.

For you guys who've done this before, thanks. To those who haven't, and are just guessing...no thanks, I can do that myself :-)

It would be wise to run a couple ground straps from the frame to the engine. On mine, I ran a ground strap from each side of the frame to the rear of each cylinder head.

As for your starter, you should have two posts. Usually the larger post gets the heavy battery cable...the other post gets the signal from the ignition switch....it's a lighter gauge wire.

If I recall, if you use a remote starter solenoid the main power cable goes to the big terminal and the jumper goes from the big terminal to the small (ignition) spade terminal. If you don't use the standard Ford-type solenoid, remove the jumper and hook the starter switch wire to the small spade terminal.
Blykins is right, make sure you have at least one good ground from the block to the frame (or maybe direct to the battery).
