Default Kirkham 289 Comp Car

Some of you have been asking about this car for a while. It JUST landed and is ready for a new home.

The car has FIA front flares, welded FIA hood scoop, Le Mans grills, and "Joseph" flares on the rear. It does not have FIA doors. It is a "Hybrid" (built on a 427 coil over chassis) so it will turn, drive and stop with the best. For someone who wants to build a killer small block car with no big block body/small block engine excuses, this will make a great car.

To me it looks like a 289 street car modified for competition and is similar to CSX2324.

Sorry for the bad pics but it just came off the truck. Let me know if you have other questions.

Those vents caught my eye too. Add some spats behind the front fender, do the little drop door for the trunk and slap on a LeMans top...oh my.

Hoofa,

You kill me man... Do you see what you have started? Don't you have some sanding to do???

Yes we have a wreath on the side of the building but there is also an A/C unit in the garage door. No snow on top of the mountains and leaves on the trees would be another clue that this isn't a winter picture...

Back to the serious side of things...

Richard,

The cars were delivered yesterday right before your phone call... The slab side on top of the stack is a leaf spring car and is going to Arizona. No tricks here.

Fox,

Yes the car has big "Le Mans" vents.

Tom and I have been talking about this car for some time. I have the first of the non-FIA 289 comp cars that the Kirkhams built. I sent them many, many pictures of the rear flares on CSX2138 (Original Team Comp Car) to get them nailed.

This car differs from mine in that it has the wider front flares like an FIA (mine has slabside front flares and has spats being installed behind the front wheels as we speak). This car is similar to Tom Payne's red racer CSX2430 now in the Shelby American Collection. However there were no cars ever made specifically like this with the LeMans vents and the welded scoop (2430 has a riveted scoop) standard trunk and the joseph rear flares --- but it looks gorgeous and could make a really cool period correct looking 63-64 Comp Car.

Well done guys.

Mike

What is the origin of the wording joseph when describing the rear flared wheel arches...

Inquiring minds want to know...

Thanks.

"Joseph" was a Shelby America Employee in the 60's that added the wheel arch extensions to the Sebring and LeMans cars so they started calling them Joseph flares.
