Advice needed on increasing leg room.

Hello all. I'm new here and just realized my dream yesterday of owning a cobra. I sat in a few previously and didn't come close to fitting in them. I'm 6' 4 about 300 lbs. I saw one last week locally and went and looked and lo and behold I actually kind of fit in it and was able to drive it. Being an automatic helped. My question is can anyone suggest seats that are thinner and lower than what's currently in there, which are the wrong seats, high backed, thickly padded and unacceptable for the car. Can anyone post a link with this and other mods to create more room. I was able to lower the seat a few inches now my head is even with the windshield frame as opposed to 4 inches over it and I can't see to well. Thanks in advance.

Would be important to know which make cobra you bought. They are all built a bit differently. Some of the Kirkey Aluminum racing seats might work. And they can be mounted on the deck. If you have an adjustable seat on a track .. that could be eliminated to give a bit more room. Some cars .. when being built .. can have the foot box extended to provide a couple more inches for those with longer limbs. There are also adjustable foot pedals that can be tweaked.

From what I understand its a 1965 427 ac cobra built in 1980 by Ron ayers classic cars in simpsonville, SC. The previous owner really didn't have to much info unfortunately. Any info I could learn here would be great. The specs are 90" wheelbase, 302 motor and C-4 transmission. Ill try to post some pics soon. Thanks for the help.

These use an MG Midget/AH Sprite series 2 center body and windscreen You are limited by the steel tub to what you can do for room. Bolting a seat directly to the floor may be your best option.

That's exactly it. I took the seat out and was able to lower it but not close to enough to drive comfortably. I read about other owners moving the pedels forward also. The current seats have backs that are square and don't go all the way back even without the tracks. I want to buy new seats. Is there a certain company out there that most guys here use with no issues ? I figure a thinner profile seat would also help. Any way to lose that windshield and replace with something more realistic ? Thanks again.

I'm 6'2" and have a 34 inch inseam. I built my own Cobra tribute, kept the 90 inch wheelbase and was able to have a lot of leg room. For seats I took a mold off of my backside, made seat molds, and made my own. I had a local company upholster them. They are very comfortable and allowed me to have the seat mounted as low and as far rearward as possible.

Changing seats sounds like the best option. I would look at some of the Porsche Speedster replica seats and see if they have a version that would fit you. They look fairly thin. Just a thought. Good luck in your hunt and enjoy your Cobra.

We took the seat right out of one car and replaced it with a cushion on the bottom and against the back. They were shaped and upholstered to look just like a seat but got the big guy down and back as far as we could.

The previous owner of my FFR looked at different seats and ended up with Mazda Miata seats. I thought that was going to be one of he first things I was going to change, but found I really like them. I think with any seats you find you'll need to bolt them to the floor to lower your seating position.

I am 6'6" 255ish. Could not close the door on a 90 inch wheelbase. Went with 96" and a 4" drop on footwells. Can sit/fit comfortably and am well below windshield.
