Made in America

Here is something sent to me from someone at work that makes a lot of sense. Pass the word.

Good idea . . . one light bulb at a time . . . .

Check this out. I can verify this because I was in Lowes the other day for some reason and just for the heck of it I was looking at the hose attachments. They were all made in China . The next day I was in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it I checked the hose attachments there. They were made in USA . Start looking.

In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else - even their job. So, after reading this email, I think this lady is on the right track. Let's get behind her!

My grandson likes Hershey's candy. I noticed, though, that it is marked made in Mexico now. I do not buy it any more. My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico now. I have switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on everything.

This past weekend I was at Kroger. (Can be true for any store.) I needed 60W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets. I was in the light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off brand labeled, "Everyday Value." I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats - they were the same except for the price. The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in - get ready for this - the USA in a company in Cleveland, Ohio.

So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you use every day that are made right here .

So on to another aisle - Bounce Dryer Sheets . . . yep, you guessed it, Bounce cost more money and is made in Canada . The Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA ! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the price!

My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA - the job you save may be your own or your neighbors!

If you accept the challenge, pass this on to others in your address book so we can all start buying American, one light bulb at a time! Stop buying from overseas companies!

(We should have awakened a decade ago . . . . . . )

Let's get with the program . . . . help our fellow Americans keep their jobs and create more jobs here in the U. S. A.

Here in NE Ohio we once had steel mills, auto manufacturers, and a dozen tire manufacturing co. then all the ancillary support businesses, plastic rubber,& machine shops. Now we have big empty buildings, and not one passenger tire made here. These were high paying jobs that will never come back. I know their are other reasons why they are gone but I also know if we pay attention to what we are buying it would change things.

All you folks that say. " I bought a Honda because it's a better product than an American car". Well I say "step up and buy an American car, they are now as good or better than that Honda".
Can you really support your conntry and buy available American products only?

The problem is that the Honda was built in America, but my Dodge truck was built in Mexico.

Thanks for the reminder. I do that as much as possible. My Fords were assembled in the USA from some foreign parts, but the profits from them stays here and not Japan or Germany or wherever.

I needed an air compressor for my garage a few years ago and went to Home Depot and Lowe`s .... both stores only had compressors made in China and/or Mexico . Went home and did some research and found Campbell Hassfeld , which is made in America . I got a reconditioned unit with a new unit warranty , cast iron block/cylinder liners etc on a 20 gal tank shipped to a trucking company near me for less money than the foreign crap at Lowe`s/Home Depot .... and bought American !
I have always tried to buy American first .... and can tell you some real horror stories about Mexican crap ( we had/have a Division in Mexico ) that got out into the field and why it did .... and the trouble it caused me .
I also check at the auto parts stores where the products are made and have walked out if all they had was foreign stuff and an American product was available somewhere else . Yes , I will pay more for American.
Cars ? ... all the electronic dashes/ radios etc for GM were made in Mexico .... I used to call on those plants .

true, but the Honda profits go back to Japan.

And ALL the foreign cars made in the US are made in plants where the workers have been intimidated when they tried to unionize. For all their shortcomings, unions have helped the middle class in this country.

Oh hell...now you've done it.

Unions have been one of the biggest reasons this country is in trouble...look at the failures of the UAW to work with the Big Three...did you forget last fall when they refused to back off increases, double pensions, assinine paper-overtime rules...rules that required the companies pay people full wages after they were laid off?

Honda, Toyota, M-Benz and BMW have all done just fine in this country by staying non-union, and go figure...their employees are happy and have voted down unions numerous times in election...secret ballot elections rather than clandestine card checks.

So, to sum up...bullsh!t.

The company I just retired from was non union in every plant they had and the employees were compensated better than the union plants in the same area ... and we got employees who actually worked and turned out good product ! If a union wanted to try and organize one of our plants , in every case the workers told them to go pound sand .
I also used to work with the Japanese auto plants in TN .... and those people were treated far better than their unionized counterparts ... and turned out a better product as they actually cared about what they did . Yes , there are union workers who care and try to do a good job , but they are overshadowed by the typical union member .
You want to hear union horror stories ?? I used to work for the Norfolk and Western Railroad , GE etc .... and I have some great ones to tell !

Awe yes! My replicar has a ford motor, ford rearend and a frame and body made in America but that's about it. Most everything else is made in another country, Tremic -Mexico and all the trim parts...who know where?
All we can do is support things built here.

The Government tells the business owner that you have to expend capital to manufacture your products for a " greener enviorment ". The business owner does his math and figures with increased insurance premiums and capital outlays for expensive equipment to comply, there is no profit left so he may as well have his products manufactured in China or some other country with less stringent enviormental protection laws. Those countries see a golden oportunity so they spend money to loby the U.S government for more tighter laws that will eventually put the U.S. out of the manufacturing business.
So now the person who had a manufacturing job is unemployed because his job went overseas and is told to retrain for a better job like a rocket scientist. The government says spend money to stimulate the country but they don't tell you that the money is actually stimulating the countries that are manufacturing the goods that you are going to buy with stimulus money.
How stupid are we getting in this country when we can't figure out the simple truths ?
