Ernie,

That may sound good but it just isn't. When I had to have my last two put to sleep, Ken told me he could keep Sherry alive for another month or so but she would have to remain there and I could come visit. I just couldn't stand the thought of her suffering and also the hurt of going in to see her knowing she would never be coming back home. Also it would have been hard on her as she would wonder why i wasn't bringing her home.

Ron

Another symptom could be agressivness. My shepard was the calmest dog around. The grandchildren would play with her and touch her face and ears with no issues. The sheapard just wanted to play more.
When it was about time and she hurt, could not see well and her hearing was going she actually almost bit one of our granddaughters because she walked up behind the dog and startled her. That actually was when the ex figured out that it was finally time to put her down.

The old girl did not deserve to have to live like that.

Had to put down a 19 year old pet a few months back. He developed diabetes a couple of years back and we had to give him an insulin shot every day. But he was still a fine loving animal. But when he started to fail, as hard as it was to do, we could see he wasn't enjoying any quality of life anymore. The vet, knowing this animal for years, almost cried too, but it was the kindest thing to do.

I have a 16 year old Beagle named Rusty that has 7 of the 11 symptoms that Wes mentioned in an earlier post.......i guess Rusty is getting close to chaseing his last
squirrel............it will be a sad day indeed when there is no Rusty to come home to.

Yukon is getting up in age. He will probably not make next year. But we still love him.

May I suggest confining your dog to an area. That way you can at least get a little more control.
