I have a theory on why Ernie moved to Oregon...
Drinking my Snapple Tea during lunch I look at the inside of the cap and see that "Real Fact" #340 is:
There is an underground mushroom in Oregon that measures 3.5 miles across. I guess that would explain the liberal tendencies :3DSMILE:  :JEKYLHYDE I could not resist that one. Edit: besides we need some light hearted commentary in here for a change. |
Magic 'Shroom...
:D |
Well I guess we know what Ernie will be eating for the next few months. Ron  |
I'm guessing he won't last 3 winters. Come spring of 2011 he will be looking for somewhere with nicer weather.
|
John, I think he talked about Washington also as a good place for him. They should have a lot of room on the Yakima Firing Range. Ron :3DSMILE: |
Isn't it Oregon that has "lax" rules about farm animals?
And THAT is all I am going to say. |
Hmmm new state slogan?
Oregon, where the Women are safe, but the animals..........? |
I just heard recently it's OK to have chickens and I'm almost downtown! Something else about areas that have been annexed by the city WITH farm animals can keep them but new residents cannot.
Anyway, by golly I thought I might get me some chickens, sounds like more fun than a 3 mile mushroom. :) |
Ernie .... I don`t even want to think about what you might do to those poor chickens  .
|
Well Bobcat, I wouldn't be EATING them, if that's what you mean. Uh, that is what you mean,,, right??? %/:JEKYLHYDE :3DSMILE:
Just one of those crazy ideas that float by once in awhile. I think I would like a rooster too, I use to love hearing the rooster in the morning. |
How are those taxes looking now that they raised them in Oregon?
|
Me thinks that whole joke went right over Ernie's head.:JEKYLHYDE
|
More like I choose to rise above some insinuations....
The new Oregon tax, as little as I understand it, won't have any impact on the folks I've met so far in my neighborhood or myself. It's increases state income tax a percent or two for those making $125K and filing "single" or $250K for jointly. For business it increases from $10 to $140 annually. Scott S. was saying those numbers (10 and 140) are miss leading but I'm not sure what the details are. Taken at face value it doesn't sound like much but business are talking back about passing that cost on to consumers, might leave the State and the sky is falling. So, I guess it really is more than just $140 a year corporate tax? Or, somebody is lying (ya think?). :) |
Why wouldn't business pass those taxes on to consumers? Of course they will. Government always uses class warfare to enact taxes on the big, bad "rich" guy (or business). The population likes this and buys into it. Then the big, bad rich guy or business finds ways to pass it along to the consumer (you and me) and the government gets what it always wanted. Increased taxes on the masses. Just wrapped in a nice, acceptable piece of wrapping paper.
Frogs in water. Thats all we are. Well, a bunch of us anyways. Mike |

From $10 to $140, a $130 annuall increase,,, thats it? Hardly seems worth even have a vote over, must be more to the story. So far that is the only thing I've seen in print, Ad's or the news, before and now after the vote, a measely $130 annuall increase. That's gonna make or break a corporation over a years time? I'd have to say business really dropped the ball with their Ad campaign by not explaining what all the fuss is about.
Heck I just paid a $140 to get my Oregon drivers license! |
Ernie, If it is just a $130 increase per year, I don't see where it will break any businesses, and as stated, they will just pass it along to you and the rest like they do everywhere. And even to make up $130 a year wouldn't need to be much of an increase to the consumer, but I would bet they will make more than the $130 back from it if that is the case. Ron :) |

There are many businesses here that lost money last year with gross sales of 10's of millions that now owe back taxes. We now have a effective sales tax on Corporations with some of them owing as much as a $100,000 and still have no profits and those that are profitable will have to pay an additional tax of 7.5%. My company is a Sub-S I pay the minimum of $150 and 9% on all profits(like that will happen again soon). Bo.. "All of the North West seems to have become extremely wacky. Must be the weather" Bite me...:3DSMILE: |
As for the mushroom, it's really easy to find this is growing out of it...

Gross reciepts: Hawaii called it an "excise tax", 4.7%. Regardless of profit or loss you paid that minimum tax. It's a real killer for a new business trying to come up to speed, in the first year or two especially. I ALWAYS passed it onto consumers when I had the chance. |
