Contractors outnumber full-time workers at DHS; lawmakers 'astounded'

Washington (CNN) -- The Department of Homeland Security has more contractors working for it than full-time employees, a situation two members of Congress said Tuesday was "unacceptable, untenable and unsustainable."

I am not sure what your point is, but I have always thought that contractors should outnumber government folks. If not, you end up with lots of chiefs and a just a few Indians (who actually do the work).

My question would be, What was the bid process? I have been personally involved [testified] where a Govt bid request was written so that only one company could meet the specs. That company bid at retail and got the contract.

Could be the obummer gang wants contractors so they can claim "jobs created or saved" that were not Govt jobs.

Obama does NOT want contractors. He is increasing the number of government employees. To be fair, Bush was doing this too. But Obama is pushing it harder. .

If you`re talking about contract workers that come from an agency or are independent , it`s pretty obvious to me why . With all costs for employees either rising rapidly or going to shortly ( fringes , medical etc ) , serious issues with being able to terminate an employee because of unions , govt. rules or whatever ... it only makes sense to not have your own employees .... just use contract workers that don`t have those issues .
Hope you can follow this as the pain meds are finally starting to kick in .

To quote John Travolta's character in the movie Broken Arrow, "I don't see what the big deal is. I really don't."

DHS, FBI, CIA, ect all use contractors because it's easier to get a person into a position needing to be filled and at the same time cut that job when there is no longer a need for that service. Hell, the Military has been contracting for years...it works fine. The best part is you are able to keep getting fresh ideas without having to pay all the retirement and medical bennies if these guys were "full time" employees.

Come to think about it, I wish that we could replace all of the politicians with contract workers. It would be a lot easier to boot them out when they do something stupid or dishonest.
