Low Oxygen Zones In Oceans

I just read this on the news. Sounds as if it is more or less all over the world, but the Pacific Northwest seems to be the closest to shore so far.

our buddy al gore is tied into the oregon state university where most of these people are quoted in the article. not saying they are false but it is rather strange that the info is being validated by staff at the same university and one lone person at NOAA. the article mentions all oceans are affected. i'll wait for reports from other corners of the country relating to atlantic and carribean sealife before i'll swallow this

I don't know if it is all true or not, but I do know two people from here that do a lot of crab fishing in that area and they have said for the past year of so that something was going on. They are just fishermen and not scientists, so they are just going with what they see from their catches and they also said they do see more dead fish and other sea life on the coast than in past years. Maybe just a passing thing.

There are also large amounts of liquified methane gas at the bottom of the oceans from all the rotting dead stuff that accumulates.

The increased CO2 will, along with the temp increase, benefit plant life at the expense of animals. Then it will swing back the other way. Of course we could get hit with one of those Pulsar bursts that will fry off the atmosphere...

Personally, I'm not gonna worry about something our insignificant amount of control can effect.

That is exactly the reason I don't worry much about Global Warming. What little we can do to change it won't make any difference in the long run. Kind of like the Methane gas under the tundra in the Arctic. If it melts, there isn't anything I can do about it.

One immediate effect: I wanted Salmon last night for dinner and saw it was up to $9.99 a pound... ouch!

That is a great series of articles. Your more expensive salmon is partly because they have pretty much closed off all salmon fishing up here and on the coast around Eureka. I believe the hatchery said the run this year was less that 1/3rd of what it was 4 years ago.

I remember going up to Vancouver Island and pulling out some beautiful Silvers about 5 years ago on a trip. My folks live up on the island and say even the natives (First Nations) are seeing a bad catch these days and they use nets. Too bad, I really love Salmon on the BBQ, I'll just have to see about getting financing when I go to the market next time.

One of my truckers brought me some Dungenous Crab first thing Monday morning, delish.. the other brought me a couple of pounds of Snake River Channel Cat( I ate the crab on the job, I took the catfish home and blackened it with a generous portion of..BAM>>)yumoh! The only dead zone here in Oregon is between our Gov..Opps

Is the logging business picking up any up there? I haven't seen but two truckloads of logs go to the mill here in over 5 months and they were from one of the burn areas that they let them cut the trees before they rotted. I think it was more of a get rid of future fuel thing than any need for lumber as there is just no building going on in this area, and many are just setting empty.

A bit, we are getting out 40-50 loads a week, about half our normal production. Export logs are screaming out of the ports, it seems Asia is building quickly.
