Default Life is great

The older you get, the shorter each year becomes, in a relative sense - so that while the 12 months between one birthday and the next seems like an eternity when you're eight, by the time you reach eighty the passage of a calendar year seems ten times faster. Here is my Mom yesterday at 92 years young.

To cut a long story short we spent a fantastic day at sea and Mom's energetic exuberance was a visible inspiration to others less than half her age. We were initially supposed to have been aboard a sparkling 40 some foot express cruiser but it's electrical system crapped out and on short notice we ended up on an old but venerable 31 Bertram and it was a magical day. Life is beyond good - it is precious as hell and the good fortune of being able to enjoy even a moment of it must never be squandered.

Thanks guys. My mother is really the one with the great outlook. With almost eight decades of involvement and accomplishment behind her - from a young office sargeant in WWII to a pioneer in the hotel industry and a one woman tea party activist who braved numerous death threats to bring about serious political/social change.

No doubt at her age she must be acutely conscious of the rapid, relentless passage of time, yet she carries on with a calm, relaxed and unhurried disposition that constantly reminds me to try to keep life's issues in their proper perspective. I do consider myself very lucky indeed and I have promised myself that I will celebrate her life while she is still here instead of doing it in sad retrospect after she is gone.

Buzz,

The picture says it all. Too many people wait until it is too late - very glad
to see that you are not.

Buzz,

Great stuff!

Along this subject, I subscribe to my sister-in-law's conspiracy theory: Time really does go faster as you age, but they don't tell you

Happiness is a 31' Bertram with a fighting chair.......OH, and being able to show your Mom what it is like to be on a 31' Bertram with a fighting chair. The only thing missing is a 170 lb. bluefin.

Absolutely Dane! A big bluefin would be the cats a$$, but I happily settle for yellowfin - the guys haul them in all the time and they're great for shashimi and tataki. One friend of ours has a method he won't share for marinating and roasting pieces of fresh tuna in tinfoil. I know he uses a concoction of olive oil, rosemary and some other stuff - but it is melt in your mouth perfection! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!
