49 and soon to be unemployed
Lost the lease on my bodyshop business, for the first time in my 49 years, I'm soon to be unemployed (no, I will not collect, even if I could) . Scary thought in this economy, but as I have never been in this position, I'm positive that I will find something else to do so I can continue to provide for my family. Just needed to get this off my chest this AM as I now have to figure out how to explain it all to my employees that we are shutting down this Friday (yes, I am searching for another location, but have been doing so for 4 months now without any luck). I had given them a few warnings that it could happen, but now, it has......
Bill S.
PS: Search Auctionzip for a November 3rd Absolute auction in Pottstown, PA, that will be my stuff feel free to spread the word and come down to bid on stuff. it all goes, regardless of price........

Dang Bill. REALLY sorry to hear that. It must be heartbreaking to put that much effort into your business and have something completely out of your control affect the outcome. We wish you the best and hope something good comes up when the dust settles.

No doom and gloom here, I'm actually relieved now that there is some type of closure one way or the other. Just have to make it through the next couple of weeks and then I can figure out "what I want to do when I grow up"

So sorry to hear that Bill. That's not an easy thing. Let us know if there is anything that CACC can do to help.

So, what does lost the lease actually mean? It seems strange that the owner would throw you out at this time - lots of space for lease, at least around here (CA).

We could not come to terms on a lease renewal, I'll leave it at that.
Most properties are either not zoned correctly, or the ceiling heights are not high enough for the required paint booth clearances. I've got my eye on something between here and KOP that I can convert over to a MAACO. Inroads have been made, but nothing solid has come about so far. Hence the absolute auction on November 3rd. Better to clean it all out and not have to pay for storage than to continue to shovel money into what could eventually be a bottomless pit.

From the few times that we have spoken you're definitely on the ball, your tree might be taking a bit of a pruning right now but I believe it's going To grow fuller and better than ever before.

Darn Bill,
Sorry to hear about your problems and I hope everything works out quickly for you. You have helped me in the past and I wish I could return the favor, but I don't think you would like the California business climate. Good luck with the new place you are looking at.

I know this idea might sound crazy but have you considered partnering with your employees and start a new business, plus maybe build a building that is correct for an new upgraded business. Perhaps making this situation into a positive problem that forces you to take more risk and expand your business.
With that said, I know it's all about money and many other factors. Best of luck in the days ahead..be positive.

Bill,
You don't know me and I don't know you but I have always enjoyed reading your responses to other people. I was pushed out of my job after 28yrs and have to say...... When the Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going! It was the best thing that could of ever happened to me and my family! Stay Positive and things will come your way that you have never imagined. You'll just be just fine!!!
Please look me up if you come thru Pittsburgh!!
Sincerely,
Your Distant Cobra Family
