What is the best Cobra to own today?
Just asking for today's car?
I had a few failures several years ago.

The top tiers are still the tops: Shelby, Superformance, ERA, Kirkham (if you can afford aluminum)
The rollers from Backdraft etc would be the next level.
A home built kit you're at the mercy of the skills of the assembler. You need careful inspections by qualified builders, not just someone that goes and kicks tires and looks for smoke coming out of the tailpipe.
For all of them you're really want to know who built/installed the power train since those are separate from the car and the skill sets there very widely too. Cars with power train installed by those that frequent this forum get bonus points.
You don't say what your budget is. But in general, the more you can spend the better the overall experience will be.

I would add Unique Motorcars replicas to the mix as well. Great body, rock solid chassis, well designed suspension.

If you want an already done car, you probably should look for a Superformance, assembled by one of the reputable dealers. There is one that frequents this forum, that gets good reviews, I can't remember his name off hand, but hopefully some one will chime in! Cheers, Dennis

What he said. If you want a car to drive and not feel like the engine always wants to have the cobwebs blown out get the small block car. The 427 always was happiest at much higher RPMs than you can use on the street.

That's what I'm talking about. If you get one finished but that was home-assembled kit, then be cautious and get it carefully inspected to be sure the assembly - body/frame and the power train - was done well. Otherwise they become a money pit that would have been better spent on getting one of the higher end cars.
And I assume you are aware that any Cobra is a tinkerer's dream (or nightmare, depending on which side of the fence you sit). But then that is probably true of any 60s vintage car these days, even a Mustang.

I’m certainly not an expert, as some of these folks on this forum are, but I would think a lot of it depends on what your plans are for the Cobra, if your concerned about resale value then it might be one particular brand, if it’s for track it could be another or if it’s for occasional driving and showing, then I think get whatever car you enjoy. When I was shopping one of my main desires was a big block 427 sideoiler with a toploader 4 speed in Red.
So that’s what I bought.

If you are talking replicas I really like my VSE with its aluminum monocoque chassis at 2000# without any gas.

Having owned a fiberglass CSX 4000 series, Superformance, and 7 ERA’s, Aluminum, it’s Kirkham, or Shelby and Fiberglass, ERA. The fit and finish is amazing on the ERA. I know most people don’t pay attention to the gaps between panels, etc, but the ERA cars are second to none.

I have a Backdraft and love it, but if I had a bigger wallet I would have bought the Superformance for sure (minus the ugly rectangle tail lamp).
