Steve, when that site is ready, let me know. I have a friend looking for some improved performance ofr his Hyundai (sp?).

I hear California is going to be just blistering hot, down from stupifyingly hot. Of course in a couple weeks it will be I am sitting on the sun hot.

El Centro has a saying on all the Welcome to... signs as you come into town that says "Where the sun spends the winter". They should add "and it invites a friend for the summer!"

Having been to El Centro a couple of times in the Summer, short stays thank God, I believe you about the Welcome to signs. Now if we can figure a way to get all of the humidity to concentrate down there for the Summer!!!!

We are actually in the start of a cold wave as it is just barely 106 and not really bad humidity right now. Of course it is just 10:20 AM and we still have the afternoon to go. I can't wait for the weekend when it said it would be down to just 101 or maybe even as low as 99 if the Arctic air gets here.

I like you Ron, but you can keep all the humidity.

Sounds like it's going to be downright chilly up there and with the humidity you will get that cold damp wind that chills you to the bone!

I hope the DRQ/CG doesn't read this part: I decided on a Kimber. Not sure the caliber yet. Probably .45ACP so I can get the .22 conversion with it. I need to sell a Porsche 911 first though.

Hey, why should we both be miserable. Since you are so much younger than I am and can take this stuff a lot easier, if we could concentrate it all in that one area, just think how nice all the rest of the state would be.

Sounds as if you have picked a good gun to get. I have got to get back over to the range and shoot again as I still have one free pass. And they are air conditioned. Don't worry about CG. I used to have 7 guns and am down to two now. But I am looking at a smaller one for a carry weapon as the 9 MM is a little big to wear when I am in the Cobra seats as they are so darned closed in. Maybe a 50 calibur that I can mount to the car. I was actually looking at a S&W Sigma in my NRA Magazine this morning that is only a little larger than the palm of my hand and fires both 9 MM and .40 cal. ammo. I think they have some of them over at the range and if so, I am going to try one out and see how I like it.

I really like the .40SW cartridge. Good acurracy and knockdown power for it's size. In IPSC the 40 is the most dominant cartridge in the production pistol class.

Maybe I'll just get a Kimber Custom Satinless II in .40SW.

Just back from the range. They have a couple of really nice S&W small .40s over there and you can get the laser site too. Next time I go back if Jeff is there I am going to try out a few of them and see which I like. My shooting was horrible. I have to start doing it more than twice a year and on top of that with my nerves when I run the target out to 125 feet I can no longer get any kind of shot pattern. In fact I just try to hit the target. My hands shake so much that to hold the gun steady and squeeze the trigger slowly is almost impossible. More practice would help, but nothing is going to do away with these nerves. At the 7 to 30 foot range I am not to bad. I decided to quit trying for a shot pattern and just shoot to disable the guy. I used a SWAT target with a man behind a woman and he had a knife at her throat. Once I got her head blown off and out of the way, I really messed him up. But seriously, I am going to have to start going over at least once a month and shooting. They have a good collection of guns there that yo can look at and go fire, so that makes it nice. They had a really nice little 4 shot 38 there with a laser site, but I want something with some stopping power if I ever have to use it. I carry a 15 round clip in my 9 MM that is a mixture of police penetrating rounds, hydra shock, and a couple of silver tips for maximum damage. The other clip I just put mostly ball ammo in except for a few hydra shocks. Any recommendations? I mostly want a small gun that is easy to hide when in the Cobra. When hiking the 9 MM and others are ok as I want range and power.

Ron, .45 GAP is available in several "carry" pistols. Small size but good stopping power. I had thought about those, but I really want a target gun and don't have a CCW permit.

I am not sure if this is the same in all counties, but up here if you are on Govt. land, you can carry a pistol in the open. I talked to our Sheriff about this and he said that the main reason they preferred that you keep it hidden even if you are out collecting rocks is so someone doesn't see you and come running in to report a person carrying a gun and then they have to go find out where.
As for target practicing, they have mostly closed down all the places on BLM land that we used to go to shoot because of the idiots that turned them into dump sites. They even started hauling old referigetators out and dumping them on the shooting areas. Anyway it is to hot now for outside practice. Lead bullets melt before they reach the target.

There are a couple ranges nearby and there is a place some freinds and I have gone out. As far as being too hot now, I won't be able to afford it until fall anyway.

Yes, the prices of guns have really gone out of sight, but they are selling more now than ever before. A good friend of mine is the NRA advisor for this area and gives their safety classes and he said all of the classes are full months in advance. In talking to people, many who have never even shot a gun, he said the main thing that seems to come out is they don't feel the police will protect them any more. I know that they won't dispatch a squad car for just a home break in around here and will mail you a form to fill out and that is the end of it. But things are swinging the other way around here and no longer are people being told to run if anyone breaks in. If you have a weapon or means, then stand your ground and protect your property as the police won't. With so much dope and so few police, it isn't the cops fault. Major crimes have to come first. Five murders take priority over 2 and a rape. In the last two years we have had 5 young women vanish and another three or four murdered that they have found. With all of the huge canyons and hundreds of miles of forrest, it is easy to dispose of a body and it may never be found. And the marijuna and meth people are really moving into ths area in big bunches. Most stay in the wilderness as they know many of the people in the small towns like this one are armed and will protect themselves. Man, it is ridiculous when you have to carry a gun to drive your car. But car jacking in Redding is now more or less a normal sport it seems.

Sounds like Meth is a problem everywhere you go.

If you have an American Rifleman from a few months ago, they have a review on the Springfield XL in .45GAP I believe. Your NRA Advisor might help you there.

The Kimber runs about $700. Not bad for what you supposedly get. Will go talk to the local dealer and see what they have. Would buy locally so they can show me some tips as I never owned a semi-auto before. Always revolvers.

Meth is getting worse up here. They just transferred in 3 more full time DEA agents last summer for this area. Madea big raid and bust just four houses down from me a few months ago and now the place has been condemmed and sold.
One thing to remember about semi-automatics is to keep them clean. I have never had one jam on me but have seen them do it as people tend to think they can just keep shootig them and not clean them. I always clean mine immediately after shooting and if it lays for a month, I clean it again in case any dust may get into the mechanisms. Mine has a slotted screw that you turn to make it work like a double actiron revolver or a semi-automatic. I like the automatic ecause when we have to qualify, part of it is a time shoot using two magazines or loading a revolver twice.
When the last round is out of the auto, I can drop the magazine on the ground and have the next one in and be firing almost before the first one hits the ground. The people with the revolvers have a problem getting past this phase of the qualifying. But some of them use those speed loaders and they are almost as fast as the automatics.
Any good gun up here will run from over $500 to around $1,500 dollars. What kind of targets do you plan to use?

Probably paper and cans at first, then try some amature Practical Shooting matches in Yuma or Palm Springs. Not that I would win, but it certainly adds discipline and prods you to do better instead of plinking.

John Panger, who is our NRA guy here used to be a homicide detective in Los Angles. Then he moved to head of security for LAX and several other places down there before coming up here. A great guy with great stories and some very gruesome video tapes to back them up. Also some very funny stories about cops playing with their guns. He shot at the pro meets for years before his heart got to the point he had to give up all of the travel. He is one of the best shots with any gun I have ever seen.
For targets, after the paper ones, and try to get some of the SWAT teams targets as they are very good. But once you move beyond that, the ones that fall or move when hit will help. Once you win your first National Championship you will become unberable.

My wife has some steel hanging steel targets and a pigeon thrower she inherited from her dad.

Talk to you guys in the morning. I only have an old revolver. That is all you need to protect yourself.

When my dad passed I got his rifle. Remmington 7 MM MAGNUM Model 700. It will knock you down if your not carefull. I once saw my dad put three rounds through a dime at 100yards. My uncle bet him $1,000.00 a shot if he could do it. He paid up too. All three inside a dime. I still have the target.

The web site is comming along very well. I like it alot. The first part I am working on opening is for Sport Compact cars. Then I think the diesel stuff. Banks Power ect....

It is alot more detailed than I thought it would be but I am trying to do it right.

That sounds like a nice pee shooter.

My prefrence is mauser 1909 with SS Shilen barrel, Laminated stock, all glassed in. 8 power fixed scope, setup for 300 Win Mag and a 200 yard shot.
