What 7 vehicles would you drive?

Well, we actually had an argument about cars in a recent Lounge thread. How did that happen?!? It got me thinking about what everyone would drive if they could.

Anyway - I've seen variations on this on other forums:

With an unlimited budget what 7 (one for every day of the week) cars would you own? Don't forget to consider getting the groceries and such, as well as your preferred living climate.

I'll post mine as soon as I can narrow the list down to just 7.

cobra de capell 06-04-2007 09:56 AM

Since you are a lefty, why would you want to end up with 7 cars? I thought lefty's were trying to reduce their carbon footprint? How about, send all your extra money to me, I'll plant a tree?

VRM 06-04-2007 10:06 AM

CdC, this thread is not about politics. It's about engineering, art, passion, performance, and practicality. If you can't think of anything other than Cobras, then just write Cobra seven times.

This is a crappy start to this thread.

7 cars? One for each day of the week?

1971 Hemi Cuda
1966 Cobra
1970 Hemi Superbird
1967 GT-40
1973 grand torino sport
2008 Ford Hybrid
1934 ford tudor

These would be fine with me -- given the short time I spent.

Sorry, Brudda, the Old Hippie turned staunch Republican had this single first thought:

I have a two-car garage!!! Where could I store five more cars?

Mustang vert and Gunrack are in the garage, Momma's Expudition is in the drive.

Car #4 would be my B-in-laws '79 Jag XJS V12. Smooooth.

Car #5 might be one of those screamin' little new Mini-Coopers. 'Way cool. More fun than the old ones, even!

Car #6 would be a piece of junk 10-15-year-old Chrysler crumple car for my granddaughter to drive off into a ditch.

I can't imagine having a #7, sorry.

#1) Any car worth more than $5M so I could sell it and buy another house with a 10 car garage. Not enough room for that big a garage on my existing lot.

Will have to think about cars #2 thru #7

VRM 06-04-2007 02:41 PM

My cars

#1 Ferrari 250gto s/n3987 restored to Mecom trim at Sebring ‘1963. Ralph Lauren has owned the car since ’85 or so, and it is currently red.
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...avian/3987.jpg

#2 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder s/n3099. I prefer blue or green cars. This is a perfect combination of both!

#3 Corvette Grand Sport #003 in 1964 Nassau Speed Weeks Mecom trim.

#4 Cobra CSX2299 restored to ’64 LeMans spec. Viking (Princess) blue with thin white strripes.

1957 Corvette SS

Aston Martin DBR1/#2
#2 is the 1959 Lemans winning car.
http://public.fotki.com/VRM/aston-ma...tures0193.html

And for a daily driver it is a current Z06 Corvette in LeMans Blue.

Though I did almost pick the Ferrari Breadvan s/n2819 GT as a daily driver because of the extra space.…

I would leave the Scuderia Serenissima flags, ‘cause they are just too cool.

There was so much I had to eliminate – like an Aston DB4GTZ, Jag low drag lightweight E-Type, Figoni and Falaschi Talbot-Lago, front engine Scarab, 1969 Dana Camaro, Charger Daytona, '68 Royal Firebird...my list is a crazy long one...

Steve

P.S.: sorry for the extra big pics - I don't have photo edit software on this PC.

You get to live anywhere you want. This is all completely hypothetical, and based on a couple of collections I've seen. For me, the cars also have a lot to do with history, as well as the engineering.

I was just curious about how nutty we all are about our cars.

Steve,

Congratulations. You have finally started a thread that there should be no way for anyone to start a fight on. Also a very difficult one for me to answer as I now have to narrow my favorite 3,785 cars down to just 7. Many of my top choices are foreign made and nearly all of them are older cars. I will have to think about this tonight while I am on the throne.

Ron

And I thought I had it tough starting from 2,689!!

As far as no fighting...well, don't forget the BB/SB thing that rears it's ugly head every so often. And it looks like mine are all SB cars (though I replaced CSX3016 with the Corvette SS).

Steve

clayfoushee 06-04-2007 06:35 PM

OK, I have 5 of them on the premises, and just need two more to complete the weekly menu. I do have a bit of a practical side, and focus on cars I can both afford to insure and replace, and don't worry about excessively.

1) C6 Z06 (say no more)
2) Lotus Elise (nothing corners better, street legal go-kart)
3) Unique 427FE SC (ridiculous and impractical, and still fun)
4) Subaru WRX Wagon (fast grocery getter and great foul weather car)
5) Ford F-350 (tows anything, hauls more)
6) ?
7) ?

.......or just repeat, pretty happy with this mix of practical and fun.

Jamo 06-04-2007 08:33 PM

Steve, I love your inclusion of the Breadvan for practicality.

Mine...

1. Audi S8
2. Ferrari Daytona (fixed lights)
3. Porsche 959
4. Swamp Rat IV
5. Lancia Stratos
6. The Batmobile from the last movie.
7. Gullwing

Jamo 06-04-2007 09:10 PM

1. Atlantic
2. DB5
3. R8
4. Split Window
5. Royale...the one at Blackhawk would do nicely.
6. Birdcage
7. 917 Long Tail

VRM 06-04-2007 10:33 PM

Clay,
I've been thinking about a WRX for my next around town car. How has yours been?

Jamo,
Batmobile...heh, heh... The obvious question is: Since you live in California, where would you drive it? The obvious answer: Wherever you wanted! It's ugly as all hell, but you would never know it once you are bouncing around inside!

Is the split window a '63 vette, a bug, or something else entirely?
The R8 - race prototype or road car?
Any particular 917Ll? There were slight body differences, and major livery differences. The 917K was almost on my list - I'd probably go for the Pink Pig, or the purple hippy car.

I may have to think about a second list...

Steve

Jamo 06-04-2007 10:54 PM

Vette, new road car, any long tail would do...

But, having seven cars is about politics, not passion, engineering, art, performance and practicality. Besides, this is a Club thread not your thread. Also, I thought that you were going to PM your home address to me?

392cobra 06-05-2007 09:21 AM

Geez cdc,
Every thread that VRM starts or posts on doesn't have to be an opportunity to start a confrontation.
How about just relaxing on this one ? You know there will be other chances.

Ron61 06-05-2007 11:07 AM

:(

Steve,

I have to take it back. I don't think it is possible to start a thread that some people can't turn into a confrontation.

CDC,

How much land or how many houses can a person own before it becomes political?

Ron

Steve, I bought a used '06 WRX Wagon with 6K miles a month ago. I had a 100K miles '00 Outback before that, and was impressed with it. I like Subarus. The WRX is a blast, and I split daily-driver duties between it and the Z06.
