Linseed oil is great stuff. Just be sure to dispose of the rags properly. They will self ignite after use in the sun. I have seen this with my own eyes.

Linseed oil is great stuff but you have to make sure the coverage is 100% We used it on a little wooden bridge over a gold fish pond and it lasted several years.
