Update, they have found the truck and it's owner... this was no accident! My aunt goes into surgery tomorrow morning, if she makes it through that, things will be looking up for her.

Quote:
An Erie man told police Monday that he argued briefly with Stephen Caldwell and Terry Peoples shortly before witnesses saw him run them over with his 1998 Dodge Ram truck Sunday night.

The man admitted to Erie police detectives that he “felt a thump” as he pulled away from the curb and that he later powerwashed his pickup, according to a search warrant police issued to inspect the man’s vehicle.

Caldwell and Peoples were struck by a vehicle late Sunday along West 26th Street, near the intersection with Hazel street.

Caldwell, 42, died early Monday morning from injuries he received in the incident.

Peoples, age not given, is a patient at Hamot Medical Center. Hamot would not provide Peoples’ medical condition, though Erie County District Attorney Brad Foulk said that she is on life support.

Police have not filed charges. The police Identification Unit is still examining the truck, Foulk said.

In the search warrant, police said the truck’s driver told detectives that he had been drinking Sunday night at the Knights of St. John, 660 W. 26th St., when he walked outside around 10 p.m. and saw Caldwell and Peoples making out near his parked truck.

“He said something like ‘better not scratch my truck,’” the warrant stated. “They said something back and (Caldwell and Peoples) joked with each other.”

Read more about the incident and the police search in Tuesday’s Erie Times-News.
