Giving Gore credit by 'contributions' or advocacy is like saying Hanna-Barbera really CREATED the internet due to it's forward thinking video conferencing and communication representations in the Jetsons (remember he sat clicking a button all day) AH HA, George Jetson, the creator of the mouse.

Would Gene Roddenberry have patent/bragging rights when a transporter is developed?

What he really did, or contributed, was advertising at the opportune moment.

He is a salesman, taking credit for other peoples work and packaging it as his own. He is an effective one.

people, including me, had been using 'arpanet' which just referred to 'net' with ftp ascii files, email, and TCP/IP protocols in the late 80's. (sounds like the current day internet to me, just a lot... a lot a lot slower)

What many fail to realize, computing power for the consumer would never handle packet switching to make widespread use possible until the 90's anyway. ‘Truth’ emerges in British court

So one day a British judge is banning the distribution of Al Gore’s film on global warming from that nation’s schools and days later the former vice president is walking off with the Nobel Peace Prize. Well, sometimes you just can’t keep junk science down.

Yes, the same gaggle of politically correct judges who thought the ever-tedious Jimmy Carter, top ranked terrorist Yasser Arafat and the man who presided over the largest scam in United Nations history (that would be Kofi Annan and the oil-for-food debacle) were worthy of the peace prize have done it again.

Of course, in the co-winner of the prize, the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Nobel panel did indeed find a worthy recipient which has done credible research in the field for decades.

Gore? Well, let’s just look at what British High Court Justice Michael Burton had to say in ruling against the distribution of “An Inconvenient Truth” to 3,500 schools because it violated school laws barring “political indoctrination.”

He called it “a political film” that while “broadly accurate” was truly flawed in its details.

The judge said the evidence was either inadequate to show, or was just not there, that global warming had caused: 1. Hurricane Katrina. 2. Evacuation of low-lying atolls in the Pacific. 3. Snow melting on Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. 4. Drowning of polar bears in the Arctic. 5. Death of coral reefs. 6. A drying of Lake Chad.

Also: 7. A chart purporting to show a lock-step connection between atmospheric carbon dioxide and temperature over 650,000 years “does not establish what Mr. Gore asserts.” 8. A 20-foot rise in sea level, predicted for “the near future,” would take a millennium. And 9. A prediction that the Gulf Stream would shut down was “very unlikely” though it might slow.

The film was, in short, more propaganda than science - something which seemed to not at all bother the Nobel judges.

Yes, but the judge did not say it could not be used, and from what I read, it WILL be shown to all of the kids (with some kind of stupid disclaimer...as if that would somehow right the imbalance).

Or to Father Nguyen Van Ly, a Catholic priest in Vietnam arrested this year and sentenced to eight years in prison for helping the pro-democracy group Block 8406.

Or to Wajeha al-Huwaider and Fawzia al-Uyyouni, co-founders of the League of Demanders of Women's Right to Drive Cars in Saudi Arabia, who are waging a modest struggle with grand ambitions to secure basic rights for women in that Muslim country.

Or to Colombian President Àlvaro Uribe, who has fought tirelessly to end the violence wrought by left-wing terrorists and drug lords in his country.

Or to Garry Kasparov and the several hundred Russians who were arrested in April, and are continually harassed, for resisting President Vladimir Putin's slide toward authoritarian rule.

Or to the people of Iraq, who bravely work to rebuild and reunite their country amid constant threats to themselves and their families from terrorists who deliberately target civilians.

Or to Presidents Viktor Yushchenko and Mikheil Saakashvili who, despite the efforts of the Kremlin to undermine their young states, stayed true to the spirit of the peaceful "color" revolutions they led in Ukraine and Georgia and showed that democracy can put down deep roots in Russia's backyard.

Or to Britain's Tony Blair, Ireland's Bertie Ahern and the voters of Northern Ireland, who in March were able to set aside decades of hatred to establish joint Catholic-Protestant rule in Northern Ireland.

Or to thousands of Chinese bloggers who run the risk of arrest by trying to bring uncensored information to their countrymen.

Or to scholar and activist Saad Eddin Ibrahim, jailed presidential candidate Ayman Nour and other democracy campaigners in Egypt.

Or, posthumously, to lawmakers Walid Eido, Pierre Gemayel, Antoine Ghanem, Rafik Hariri, George Hawi and Gibran Tueni; journalist Samir Kassir; and other Lebanese citizens who've been assassinated since 2005 for their efforts to free their country from Syrian control.

Or to the Reverend Phillip Buck; Pastor Chun Ki Won and his organization, Durihana; Tim Peters and his Helping Hands Korea; and Liberty in North Korea, who help North Korean refugees escape to safety in free nations.

These men and women put their own lives and livelihoods at risk by working to rid the world of violence and oppression. Let us hope they survive the coming year so that the Nobel Prize Committee might consider them for the 2008 award.

Considering that G.W. is one of the ... umm... "least loved ever" American leaders as seen by the majority of the world, it's a bit embarassing that We, The People, could have elected a Nobel Prize winner and didn't have the foresight to do it. But it's not our fault.

We, The People, didn't elect him. The Supreme Court did.

An official recount in FL could have gone to either Bush or Gore, depending on how chads and such were tallied.

Gore reminds me of the story about the emperor who wore no clothes. He is surrounded by people (smart people) that are using him for their own agendas. The Nobel commitee is no exception. What better way to influence politics in a America? The chickens WILL come home to rest on this one.
