JT,
Of course Gore is trying to make himself look great!! He is a politician, and that is how they get elected!

Sorry, I can't get to youtube at work - something about it not being work-related. I'll try and look at those links this weekend.

I already read about the UK court decision on BBC the other day. I agree with it There is a lot of bogus science that he promotes as part of his environmental agenda. I do not defend any of that. It actually disgusts me.

However, I do believe in giving credit where credit is due.

Gores comments about the internet were a result of being asked why people should vote for him instead of his opponent. His opponent had very little interest in high tech issues (based on his voting record, anyway). Gore was talking about a lot of high-tech things back in the day that were pretty forward-looking. Even the guys who invented TCP/IP defended his contributions.
Would the internet have happened without him? Yep, but he did have a positive impact, and he was one of the first politicians to advocate for internet development.

Steve

Sorry being so late to chime in. Been throwing up all morning. Still feeling queezy.

Its clear to me the Ignobel Peace commitee is trying to effect American politics. Carter, Now Gorible. Next, there gonna make him president of the world. Ever notice how its dumbocrats that get this prize? Gosh, this reminds me SO much of the "Left Behind" series. Perhaps Gorible IS the Anti Christ? !!!!! Pretty sure Bill Clinton is next... If three people EVER did more to NOT win this prize, I cannot name them.

I'll tell who phuking deserves it. Our American Military men and women. Thats who!!! Someone needs to stick some of Alfred's special recipe up those commitee members' butts and light it.

Mike

Giving Gore credit by 'contributions' or advocacy is like saying Hanna-Barbera really CREATED the internet due to it's forward thinking video conferencing and communication representations in the Jetsons (remember he sat clicking a button all day) AH HA, George Jetson, the creator of the mouse.

Would Gene Roddenberry have patent/bragging rights when a transporter is developed?

What he really did, or contributed, was advertising at the opportune moment.

He is a salesman, taking credit for other peoples work and packaging it as his own. He is an effective one.

If you are going to base his contribution on his bill in 1991,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Gore's_contributions_to_the_Internet_and_techno logy
people, including me, had been using 'arpanet' which just referred to 'net' with ftp ascii files, email, and TCP/IP protocols in the late 80's. (sounds like the current day internet to me, just a lot... a lot a lot slower)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arpanet
"In 1983, TCP/IP protocols replaced NCP as the principal protocol of the ARPANET, and the ARPANET became just one component of the fledgling Internet."

What many fail to realize, computing power for the consumer would never handle packet switching to make widespread use possible until the 90's anyway. The pieces were all ready in place, technology is was needed to catch up. Egomanical Gore was nothing more than a Egomaniac Mark Cuban, where they are the most fortunate people to be in the most fortunate positions. (Cuban will probably come after me for defamation of character)

Let's say this, his legislation, signed by Bush, allowed a PRIVATELY OWNED corporation out of no where, leap R&D development with huge funding to create Mosaic.

how is the context of a quote like this really defined?

"'If it had been left to private industry, it wouldn't have happened,' Andreessen says of Gore's bill, 'at least, not until years later.'"

sigh, sorry, if this constitutes a hijack, I'm sorry, he just makes my skin crawl.

AKA himself

what a dog and pony show.

BUSH? seriously BUSH, a comparison of Gore! Laughable.

Murder? nope, not the worst or best depending on how you look at it.
Money Waster? nope, not the worst or best depending on how you look at it.
1st (American) Dictator? Not EVEN CLOSE!!! not the worst, or best depending on how you look at it.

Bush really didn't/doesn't excel at anything. Complacency doesn't deserve any award.

This was in the op-ed section of the Herald this morning ....

‘Truth’ emerges in British court

By Boston Herald editorial staff | Saturday, October 13, 2007 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Editorials

So one day a British judge is banning the distribution of Al Gore’s film on global warming from that nation’s schools and days later the former vice president is walking off with the Nobel Peace Prize. Well, sometimes you just can’t keep junk science down.

Yes, the same gaggle of politically correct judges who thought the ever-tedious Jimmy Carter, top ranked terrorist Yasser Arafat and the man who presided over the largest scam in United Nations history (that would be Kofi Annan and the oil-for-food debacle) were worthy of the peace prize have done it again.

Of course, in the co-winner of the prize, the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Nobel panel did indeed find a worthy recipient which has done credible research in the field for decades.

Gore? Well, let’s just look at what British High Court Justice Michael Burton had to say in ruling against the distribution of “An Inconvenient Truth” to 3,500 schools because it violated school laws barring “political indoctrination.”

He called it “a political film” that while “broadly accurate” was truly flawed in its details.

The judge said the evidence was either inadequate to show, or was just not there, that global warming had caused: 1. Hurricane Katrina. 2. Evacuation of low-lying atolls in the Pacific. 3. Snow melting on Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. 4. Drowning of polar bears in the Arctic. 5. Death of coral reefs. 6. A drying of Lake Chad.

Also: 7. A chart purporting to show a lock-step connection between atmospheric carbon dioxide and temperature over 650,000 years “does not establish what Mr. Gore asserts.” 8. A 20-foot rise in sea level, predicted for “the near future,” would take a millennium. And 9. A prediction that the Gulf Stream would shut down was “very unlikely” though it might slow.

The film was, in short, more propaganda than science - something which seemed to not at all bother the Nobel judges.

Mike,
No good argument so you have to resort to insults? He said nothing about you personally, yet you attack him. Personally, I think you owe him an apology.
