Has anyone thought about the insurance ramifications from this?

Kudzu? keep that stuff there! I watched, is disbelief, Alton Brown eat that stuff. Personally I think that is an alien plant bent on the destruction of mankind.
You can make a grape like jelly from the blossoms. What? You did not know it had blossoms? Beautiful, purple, grape-smelling blossoms...like Wisteria, in fact, I believe they are related....

Sorry about the detour...back to work... Friends of mine in San Diego said they could see the flames from their home...prolly gonna bail. So sad.

Mike, I had no idea.

Now if we can only refine this for fuel, we could solve the entire world's problems.

back to the thread....

it is getting worse, this will have such a huge fiscal impact. Last night's news had already started comparisons of gov't responses between the uses of Qualcomm and the superdome. Dangerous statements.

quick google search.

I don't think it has anything to do with politics at all. It is a simple fact that people live in hot spots. This including hurricanes, earthquakes, and anything else Mother Nature wants to throw at us.

Southern California's landscape is beautiful but it is a tinder box in the fall. Anything can set off a fire, but when you throw in the Santa Anna winds all hell breaks loose. This is another example of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I am hoping more people can get out safely, and act on the warnings they are given to get out.

Looking at pics of the fire, it looks to me like most of it is dried brush. What exactly can be done to clear areas of this tinder other than "controlled" burns?

The first thing I thought of were all the personal documents, pictures and other stuff I can't think of right now, that should be in a safe place.
Is a safe deposit box the way to go??.

427 S/O,
When I lived out there, I invested in a Fire Safe. It payed off for a friend of mine when he lost his house to a fire (house fire, not these kind). All of his important papers and a lot of pictures were in the safe. Everything in the safe was in perfect condition. Nothing else in the house was salvageable. After that I bought a small one for my papers, and I still have it. I have another, larger one now as well, but not rated as hot.

Joe

So far, the fires are north of I-8 near Julian and south near Tecate, which could move up to where I-8 drops south near it. Couple of weeks from now, they'll either be out or everything will be burned out anyway.

I lived in the Imperial Valley back in the late 70s/early 80s...what's going on in Calexico?

Thanks Jamo. I work for Samsung as a Tech Support/Tech Training Engineer. My job is basically to teach people how to repair the phones & support the carriers on the returns process. A real small carrier named "Cricket" that I am responsible for has their service center in Mexicali. We stay in Calexico and they come pick us up and take us back and forth daily. I just got this account, so this is my first trip back since I left in 2000, other than 2 days in Ventura in Jan 2002, but I didn't get out of that area at all.

And to cut everyone off at the pass, I cannot get anyone a free or discounted phone. I can't even get one for myself.

lol. Work makes us stay on the US side, so not much of a choice there. After living for 7 1/2 years in San Diego, I am aware of the "Maids" across the border.

Thumbs down Time for the blame game...

Well, it has started. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,305341,00.html

Folks who insist on big government complain when slow moving big government cannot respond...so what is the answer? Increase the size of big government to make sure something like this never happens again.

Idiots.

Schwarzenegger is right, some want to complain just for the sake of complaining. Of all the victims I saw interviewed on FOX, not one was complaining!. Most were helping each other. That's the america I like to see....

I think that is one agency trying to cover it's butt. Unless the White House knew. Of course that wouldn't surprise me either.
