Default Cryllic Spam....

I'm getting a ton of this cryllic span recently. Три уровня мерчендайзинга

Anyone have any luck in filtering it?

I haven't been receiving that stuff but a friend sent me an email warning about a virus that would come in the form of an email stating that a friend had sent me an electronic greeting card. I thought that it was just another one of those email things that people pass around so I deleted it without giving it another thought.

An hour ago I went into my Junk box to clean it out and there was a message entitled you have received a card from a friend. I immediately deleted it. This virus is supposed to be very bad as it will wipe out parts of your hard drive.

I never open them. However, I can see the contents in my Firefox split window view. Today I noticed there are phone numbers in the body of the emails. I set up a message rules based on a consistent area code, in parenthesis, to trash the emails. Waiting to see the results.

NO, I definitely did not open it.

4 or 5 years ago, I received an email about Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs from hahaha. I deleted it. A day or two later I got the same email, I again deleted it. A day or two later I got the same email a third time. By now my curiosity got the better of me and I opened it. I immediately heard my hard drive activate for a second or two. Oooops, I deleted it. Guess what? It was too late. At first nothing happened but as the days went by I began to have more and more problems. Our IT guys tried to fix it remotely but couldn't. I took my laptop to them a few days later and they said that it would take them a while to clean up the disc.

I didn't lose any data but that was a royal pain in the a$$. I made a decision that very day that I would never again open a suspect email. Once bitten, twice shy. One virus was enough for me.

I run McAfee Enterprise VirusScan which has 1549 virus definitions so far. It has been working very well. Between my corporate spam filter and my own filter, 99% of spam gets blocked.

Wayne,

I use the same virus program you have and I have been very happy with it. In all the years I have been in computers, I have never had a virus get into any of mine. I have had it catch some and then I would go to the log and see what it was. But any e-mail that I don't think looks right I just delete. I have wanted to look at the expanded headers of a few of them and when I go to that area to open them, it will tell me it has a virus in it and which one, then it will not let it open or download anything. I also like the script scan as every ponce in a while it will catch one trying to get in and delete it, then it pops up a small box telling me that it detected it and has deleted it. But even those are getting fewer now that A.T.& T. is not messing with the home page.

That script looks like Russian. Maybe the KGB are after you for posting politically slanted posts here on CC.

Some e-mail programs do contain an option to block those types. What e-mail program do you use?

Wayne,
I always have a good "virus suite" installed on my computer. I've used Norton, PC-cillen, McAfee, Kaperski, etc. They all do a good job.

Also, many of the "suites" add the known nasty web sites to your list of restricted web sites, so a message pops up asking if you really want to go to this "Known Bad" site.

I'm using the McAfee package now because its a free download to all Comcast customers.

I have had 1 virus in all the computers I've had over the last 30 years. It pays to be prepared.

I'm not worried about viruses. I'm well protected. The emails are definitely from the Ruskies. I just would like to catch them coming in and auto deleting them.

There has been a big up tick in crimes here in northwest Oregon that are attributed to Eastern Europeans or Russians. Their names are getting into the papers nearly as much as the Latino surnames.

Maybe a part of whats happening, I am getting them also.

I'm not familiar with that program. You might want to search the knowledge base site or at least ask a question on their forum site.
