Yes, and these guys copied them. There are a couple more EV companies out there with in-wheel motors.....forgot their name.

I thought you had the first hybrid vehicle. Foot and gravity power!

Warren,
We had the first cars, but had to wait many years to figure out the wheel so they could be used efficiently. Really got tire some standing in them and holding the body up while you walked. Speed limit was 1/2 MPH and for every 1/2 MPH over that you got hit in the head with one baseball sized stone.

Warren, you know of course, someone has to ask if it has a 427 in it or not.

I believe the stone between the front wheels weighs 427 lbs. But I'm not sure if its a Ford or a Chevy rock. But it would take a big block and tackle to remove it.

...
With a little luck, the batteries will eventually only cost around $2000, or less, for the wife's Toyota. That would be less than a new replacement engine for a normally powered vehicle and considerably easier to install. With the 150k battery warranty, service lives are somewhat comparable, in my personal opinion.
Unless one has to also replace one or both of the electric motor main bearings.
At least there is no tranny fluid, power steering fluid or significant brake shoe wear.
The future is going to be tough on the auto parts industries.
Unless they make all their coin on inverter replacements...
