Ernie,
You had better find out if they have the speed surveys there before you try to use that as an excuse. They don't seem to have them here, but as bad as I-5 and the rest of the highways are getting to be, I think they need some.

(Hypothetically, of course and without animosity) If my dog harmed your livestock on your property, you would have no difficulty persuading me to justly compensate you and follow the letter of the law. The info you posted makes no mention of entering my premises and shooting the dog in my house. I confidently maintain that if you came running into my home for any reason with a gun in your hand you would not make it out alive. Stop at my border, buddy and notify me of the circumstances before proceeding any further and we'll work from there. It is the most assinine thing I have ever heard that any law would encourage any man to rush into another man's house with a gun in his hand for any reason whatsoever.

Buzz, agree with the "spirit" of your post. However,if there was a limit to my hypothetical pursuit(property line, structure e.t.c)it would HAVE to be written into the above code.If something is NOT in the Criminal Code, then that action/activity IS legal. But i get where yer comin' from.

Well Buzz is just a kid and still learning so he is young and foolish.
I am so old that I no longer have birthdays so can use that an excuse for my wandering off topic.

You wanna hear about stupid traffic laws, how about this? The posted speed limit on just about 100% of the local municipal roads here is 30 km per hour. That is 18 mph. No one, and I mean no one goes 18 mph. In addition to that, the town has installed 4 way stop signs at just about every intersection. I find myself slowing down to the speed limit going through the stop signs.
Virtually no one obeys the speed limit and very few people now stop at the stop signs. I have watched school buses, police cars, most cars & trucks, as well as city workers (who don't do anything anyway) run the stop signs. The next town over even has begun to put up stop signs where there is no intersection in a few places. I have seen school buses full of kids pass my house at 60 or 70 kph in the 30 kph zone.
I believe that several years ago some genius had the idea to post 30kph hoping that people would not exceed 50 kph (30mph) and the same idiot decided to put stop signs everywhere to further slow down the traffic. Drivers have not really slowed down nor are they stopping more. Everyone is driving the same as before but just breaking the law more now.

Your traffic control situation seems to occur almost everywhere now - at least
where I have been. I think the biggest cause of these idiotic speed limits, signs, you name it - is that "traffic engineers" who obviously don't drive, try
to set limits for the worst possible driver and everyone else is supposed to
heed them. I have heard of some of their justifications for a 45 mph on a
freeway here (H-3, the newest) that the line of sight is too tight. BS - you could be doing 100 and talking on a cel phone and have plenty of time.
I am sure a lot of these limits, etc cause more accidents than they prevent.
OK, I'm done for now on this rant!

Wayne,
Our speed limits aren't quite as bad as yours, but the running of stop signs is. I have followed the police cars and they go right through them and you don't even see a brake light come on. I had some woman flip me the bird and start yelling at me one day because I stopped at a stop sign and that made her have to slow down. I always stop at them here because you never know what is coming and how fast, and you do know they won't stop. They do have a nasty habit of changing the speed from 70 to 65 and putting the signs off where they are hard to see. Then 5 miles later it is back to 70 on the freeway. In the towns they are all over the place. anywhere from 15MPH to 45MPH and seemingly with no reason for a lot of them. Of course our roads are so bad that if you go over 30MPH you will knock the front end out of alignment.

We have a spot here that the speed limit drops from 45 to 35 for just 1 intersection. The cross street does not slow. There is no notice that the speed is dropping and the sign is off to the side more than the other signs so it is easy to miss. The cops will sit right there in the parking lots lined up while another runs radar. It is common to see 5-10 cars pulled over on the other side of the intersection. It is such an obvious speed trap that they continuously refute. They claim that it is a dangerous corner, but have no answer as to why the cross street is not dangerous. Both streets are 3 lanes each direction. The cross street drops to 1 lane each direction after it leaves town (1 mile 1 way and 1 1/2 miles the other, while the street with the speed trap stays 3 lanes each direction as it goes into other towns each way with no real seperation any more.

Yea. I love that picture. My uncle is a cop in Georgia, and I had to forward that picture to him. He said he printed it out and hung it in the station. I also got him a sticker that said Bad Cop, No Donut. He put that one on his car. It is a good thing he has a sense of humor.

I don't know what happened a year or so ago, but the CHP used to hang out at a small gas station and market about a mile from my house and you would see at least 4 patrol cars there all day. Then all of a sudden they all quit going there. I wonder if someone complained or something. The one that I used to know well has retired so I don't know any of them to ask. When he was working he would tell us which highway to go on to try out our cars as he knew where the others were patrolling at the time and they don't have enough up here to cover nearly all of the highways all the time. And that plain white Camero and the Mustang sure does stop a lot of cars and trucks on the freeway.

They set up on that spot at various times here because people get used to seeing them so they slow down. After not seeing them, and seeing a few people not slow, more people start to speed up and then after it becomes normal to not slow, then bam the cops are back and writing the months worth of tickets on the morning commute.
