Bill,

That was one of the two I thought it might be. The other was the B-17. I think that was what they were trying to make into a remote control bomber and Joe Kennedy was killed in it when it blew up. The B-29 was a reliable bomber and took a lot of punishment.

Ron,other than the Norden, the B-17 had no computers.Remember,it came off the design boards circa 1935.

Bill,

What I meant was I think it was the B-17 that they were trying to make into a remotely flown bomb so they could try to fly it from another plane into the Nazi sub Pens in France as the bombs they had wouldn't do more than dent the tops. Kennedy was supposed to fly it out over the channel and flip a switch and bail out and another plane with a crude joystick set up would try to fly it low and right inside the pens. But it blew up killing Kennedy and they still don't know why. The B-29 I knew had a lot of new improvements but I just wasn't sure enough to say it had a computer. I am not even sure it was a B-17 that they were trying to make into the remote flown bomb. Could have been one of the other older bombers.
