Default Guess I won't be drinking Starbucks anymore! ! !

Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to
let them know how much they liked their coffees and to request that they
send some of it to the troops there. Starbucks replied, telling the Marines
thank you for their support of their business, but that Starbucks does not
support the war, nor anyone in it, and that they would not send the troops
their brand of coffee.

So as not to offend Starbucks, maybe we should not support them by
buying any of their products! I feel we should get this out in the open. I
know this war might not be very popular with some folks, but that doesn't
mean we don't support the men and women on the ground fighting

street-to-street and house-to-house.

If you feel the same as I do then pass this along, or you can
discard it and no one will never know.

Thanks very much for your support. I know you'll all be there again when I
deploy once more.

Semper Fidelis.

1st Plt PLT

PLEASE DON'T DELETE THIS . ALLOW IT TO BE
PASSED TO ALL IN MEMORY OF ALL THE TROOPS WHO HAVE DIED SO THAT WE MAY HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE TO SUPPORT THEM OR NOT! !

Also, don't forget that when the Twin Trade Towers were hit the fire
fighters and rescue workers went to Starbucks because it was close by for water for
the survivors and workers and Starbucks charged them! ! !

JUST A NOTE TO THIS;
STARBUCKS HAD STORES O N SEVERAL MILITARY BASES IN THE UNITED STATES. THEY ARE NOW BEING REMOVED BECAUSE OF THIS.

GO GET 'EM AMERICA .

STAND-UP FOR OURSELVES!

PEACE,

JMHO, Terry

Jamo/Ron, Could you please move this to the Lounge?

Please see detailed investigation of this done by snopes.com . The report can be read here Urban Legends Reference Pages: Starbucks Refuses Marines

The snopes reports this as false. Decide for yourself. I would rag on any company not supporting our troops if proven to be a true report but in this case seems to be false.

Snopes home is at Urban Legends Reference Pages: 25 Hottest Urban Legends

wouldn't it be nice if the original authors of these 'stories' could be held accountable for their actions.

I don't care what you say. I still won't go into a Starbucks. The last time I was in one was quite a while ago and I was wearing my Rush Limbaugh "Club Gitmo" T Shirt. They almost went apoplectic on me. Hey? Barista THIS! The punk behind the counter had enough face jewelry that he looked like my tackle box.

Screw them anyway,
Roscoe

Ok, That has been retracted by the Marine that wrote it but what about the charging for water on 9-11. Was that reported as false also? I have no clue how to check that out.

I don't care for Starbucks coffee anyway. I drink regular coffee with no additives. Their coffee is too pricy.

I went in to Starbucks with a work buddy once - he ordered something that sounded like a haffa-makka-crappa-zappa.

I don't drink coffee - I think I just ordered a $17 designer water.

lol, I think the reason they have all the crap to add is because the coffee itself tastes crappy. They have to add all that crap to make it taste good. Plus it is a status symbol to pay $8 for a urine sample sized coffee cup full of coffee swill.

I like that stuff. I generally only put a little cream and sugar in mine. Every once in a while I will get something fancy, but I can't drink that everyday. It has been a long while since I have been in a Starbucks.

Reading Assignment:

Bobos in Paradise: The New Upper Class And How They Got There (ISBN 0-684-85378-7) is a book by David Brooks, first published in 2000. The word bobo, Brooks's most famous coinage, is a portmanteau of the words bourgeois and bohemian. The term is used by Brooks to describe the 1990s' descendants of the yuppies. Often of the corporate upper class, they rarely oppose mainstream society, claim highly tolerant views of others, buy lots of expensive and exotic items, and believe American society to be meritocratic.

Bobos are noted for avoiding indulging in high acts of conspicuous consumption in favor of spending the greatest amount possible on the "necessities". Brooks argues that they feel guilty consuming in the way typical of the so-called "greed era" of the 1980s so they prefer to spend extravagantly on kitchens, showers, and other common facilities of everyday life. They "feel" for the labor and working class but may refuse to buy American made goods. The term "bobo chic" was applied to a style of fashion, similar to "boho chic", that became popular in uptown New York in 2004-5.

IMHO, the Starbuck's coffee is terrible. Had it once about 5 years ago.

I went into one of these "designer" coffee shops while traveling on business a few years ago and asked for a coffee. The guy behind the counter asks what kind, I said "a coffee, all I want is a coffee". He looks at me like I have 3 eyes and then starts rattling off this list of coffees, none of which I understood. I stopped him and said again "all I want is a coffee". He fianlly gave me their house blend or something else simple.

I cannot understand how some people can get all excited about coffee. Now, beer is a different story.

I dont like coffee, but I do like hot chocolate. The local Yum Yum Donuts hot chocolate is just as good, at $1.05, as Starbucks' is at $2.45
