5 kids die in 08 M5 crash....
WOW!!! That sucks!!! 3 were 19yrs old, 1 was 18 and 1 was 20.
Looking at the car... I think the proper question to ask would be.... What didn't they hit? Very sad! Could have easily been avaioded
FHP: Alcohol likely involved in crash that killed 5 young men

That is sad but what were they doing on a runway in the first place?

I live near an airport, you wouldn't believe the things which go on at night... a pretty decent isolated drag strip is the least of them.

In Ocala I believe there is a community where the houses are right off of the airstrip. I think Warren at one time posted a shot of Travoltas house with a jet parked in the driveway. If this is the same that would answer what they were doing on the strip.

John,
I think you are right about Warren's posting that picture, but the only place that I was ever actually at that had their own planes and runway, it was illegal for cars to be on the runway. They had streets for the cars. If I recall correctly, it was a large fine way back then to be caught on the runway with a car. Of course the Fred Flintstone planes we had then didn't really travel to fast taking off or landing.

I'm not sure "John Travolta" explains speeding down an airstrip in BMW.
That's like saying that "9/11" explains my dog's gas.

My guess would be there were just trying to see how fast the BMW would go.
But then again we should not be speculating on the cause of the accident. We were not promised tomorrow so live each day as if it is your last. Our prayers are with their families. What a tragic loss for any family.

MEAT,
I never said Travolta explained anything. You really need to stop putting words in my mouth. Then again if you really were a pal to everyone. You wouldn't behave the way you do. You can have the last word, because I don't dance with people that have 2 left feet....THEY HAVE NO RHYTHM!!!!!!!!

From what I am reading, a tragedy that might have been avoided. It seems that amongst just four of them there where 17 traffic offenses, at least one license under suspension, and they had just left a keg party not to mention putting a new M5 in the hands of teens. My heart goes out to the families. I lost a friend in highschool right after his parents put a big block trans-am in the hands of a 16 year old. IMO, most teens are not equiped to deal with these sorts of cars. Tragic none the less. The drivers screen name was AMERICANM5 on the M5board.

Ya, it's tragic... The report mentions that Travolta often uses that air strip. There si also a second report stating that the driver was online hours before searching for ways to make hte car faster.....

No idea what you're blathering about. But as long as you feel you've accomplished something I'm sure there'll be some cookies and jello for you in the play room after nap time.

Gee Silverback,
With all of the dumb things I did when I was young and only came through with a broken bone or two, I must have been close to immortal.

We had two guys in a Vette here forget about the end of the runway many
years ago. They didn't get hurt but couldn't stop the car on the grass
runoff but the brush sure did stop it - the body was absolutely totaled.

The private airport in Ocala used by John Travolta ?
Jumbolair
There is a press reference that Travolta's 707 has been banned due to the deteriorating condition of the runway , not built to handle the weight of a 707

Well if the type of community that John lives in makes it easy to drive his plane right up to his house's driveway, I suppose it would make it easy for other members of the community to get their cars on the runway and perhaps race up and down it?
