Any HAMS out there?
Good morning!
I thought I started a thread about hams on Clubcobra.com but I guess not. Just wondering if we got any. I"m actually looking for some advice on getting a new HT. I just installed a Yaesu FT8800R in my daily driver. Currently have a Kenwood TH D7 for sale on ebay. Looking to replace it since it is just way to bulky. Anyway it would be interesting to see there are Cobra-HAM geeks out there like me.

Another one
I use a Yaesu VX-5R. Great little radio but miniaturization can go too far. (Look at cell phones) the buttons get pretty small.
If I were buying a new one, I'd go for a digital type. It will take over the airwaves in the next couple years. We have a repeater running digital now in Saint Louis

The two things I liked about the Kenwood was the dual receive and ability to use software to program. Digital type? I'm a newbie to Amateur radio got any links to what your talking about? Are you talking about D-Star?

Hi guys,
My Father in Law is a mad keen operators. Think he is VK3NAC - Len P. He may be known to you guys as he was very active a few years back. He is now over 80 and has really slowed down in all respects.
He was often swapping the little cards with those he made contact with and he had a great collection of little cards.
When he was very active he made mention that I collected Licence tags/number plates and I was surprised to receive 8 tags from ham operators with their call signs on them.
I still have them know on my garage wall.

Sorry just thought of something.
 ..
If I was going to run a CB radio in my GT40, how could I run an aerial that would not be on the body?.
Can I use an aerial and run it behind the cabin bulk head in a verical line?.
OR
Is there an aerial that I can run around the inside of the hood lining?
Any thoughts as I was looking at a CB Uniden brand.
Sorry to hi - jack the Thread a little..
Bernie

I keep an ICON 725 with an Inverted V, but I do not have a license. I used my schools license when I got interested in it, but that was years ago.
CB has all but died in the US for HWY driving. Not anything like it used to be.
Bernie, You can install a retractable antenna with a builtin load coil and interface for CB. I think I have one in my Cobra ( I do not have a CB in the car ), you can not tell.

If you bring that 40 over to my house, I'll help you install the antenna.
